Ok, I've been stressing over this for a while now... no luck, whatsoever. I've been playing Lunar 1 SSSC for a number of days, with almost no major hitches... except for one thing: there are no voiceovers except in the FMVs... not in the battles, and not in the field. If I'm correct, is this what is called XA sound?
I'm using ePSXE 1.5.2, with the Eternal SPU 1.2 sound plugin, the latest Petes D3D graphics plugin (whatever number it is now)... basically what most people here seems to agree is the best running setup. I've read all through the archives, and there are a lot of people who seem to have this same problem, but it was because they forgot to toggle the first three options in the "config sound" screen, but I've always had those checked. Strangely, when I switch to AdriPSX (which seems to be a damn good emulator with a really major short coming), the sound works just fine, even running direct copies (prefs and all) of the same plugins. Only problem with this is that AdriPSX is not yet compatable with memory cards for most games (not Lunar anyway)... I could start over, but I'm terrified about the disc switch. Since the settings on the plugins seem to work fine for AdriPSX, it's obviously not a plugin configuration problem, but some glitch in eSPXe itself. I've tried re-installing it, I've tried it all, with absolutely no success. The last thing I'll probably try is playing it off of the CD (since one person seemed to be having sound problems with the iso) but my friend is borrowing it right now, so I'll have to wait a few days to try that, and I have a pretty good feeling that that isn't going to work. Anyone have any ideas? Here's my exact info: ***************** Plugin: Pete's D3D Driver 1.1.65 Author: Pete Bernert GFX card: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 Resolution/Color: - 1152x864 Fullscreen - [16 Bit] Textures: - R8G8A8A8 - Filtering: 2 - Hi-Res textures: off - Palettized tex windows: on - Garbage collection: on - VRam size: 64 MBytes Framerate: - FPS limit: on - Frame skipping: on - FPS limit: Auto Compatibility: - Offscreen drawing: 3 - Framebuffer texture: 1 - Framebuffer access: 3 - Alpha multipass: on - Mask bit: on - Advanced blending: none Misc: - Scanlines: off [0] - Unfiltered FB: off - Dithering: off - Screen smoothing: off - Full vram: off - Game fixes: on [00000004] **************** Configure Sound: Enable Sound: Enabled Enable CDDA Sound: Enabled Enable XA Sound: Enabled **************** Plugin: Eternal SPU Plugin 1.20 Buffer Size: 8 (tried 60 and 120 as well) Audio out method: Thread (tried timer) Move vag position method: New (tried old) Show Realtime config window: disabled Wait for XA buffer is free: Enabled (tried disabled) Fine Tune: 0 Update before accessing register: disabled SPU IRQ-Wait CPU action: disabled SPU IRQ-Force interruption flag7: Enabled (tried disabled) ***************** That's it folks, no more, no less. BTW: I'm running XP on an Athlon XP 1600+ with a GeForce2 graphics card and a Creative Labs Audigy Platinum sound card. Can anyone give me any help on this? Or point me possibly to an emulator that actually works well? I've tried all the other ones, as I've said, the only other one that seems to run Lunar is AdriPSX, which doesn't work with RPGs very well, since it can't switch discs. - Eric

Strangely, playing from CD-Rom works, quite odd. It's something about how it's reading the ISO. Obviously the ISOs are intact, because the other emulators are running them just fine.
The way it acted, the screen would fade (in the very beginning), quickly and pop back out, the music would change, and then IMEDIATELY following, Nall would fly up, and then the FMV would start the moment he got there. So it wasn't just simply not playing the sound, but also skipping over the waits as well. Maybe the ISO reader was trying to go too fast for it's own good, that's the only theory I can come up with. Oh well, at least it's fixed.

If you want to still run from a ISO, try Mooby's CD Image plugin. If it works, all other emulators should do the same thing

I had some voiceover playback issues with Lunar 2 and ePSXe's "Run ISO" function. I solved my problem by using Mooby's Plugin or the Internal W2K CD-ROM Plugin + Daemon Tools.

Ahhhh, yeah, that works too... thanks!
The CDRMooby2 plugin seems to work just fine, and voiceovers are there. Sounds like eSPXe has a little tweaking to do with the ISO driver. Anyway, thanks for the help.
