Vagrant Story Blurry Text?

Ahoy! So I'm completely new to emulation. This is the first game I'm attempting! I can't post a screenshot right now. Basically, it just looks like the text was rained on -- soft around the edges -- not crisp. I'm hoping that some kind soul out there might be able to suggest a fix!

Oh! Also, while playing the game -- everything seems to quiver slightly. The character models seem to have polygons bulging here and there...nothing seems steady. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

well.... I'd suggest you to post a screenshot (just push F8) and post your specs and the plugin settings.....

Ahoy again.

I think I may have semi-fixed the problem. Pete's OpenGLs seem to be much more appropriate. How should I know when to use D3D and when to use OpenGL? Also...a screenshot wouldn't really catch the subtle jumpy nature of the graphics. They basically look like they're jittering a bit...the polygons themselves -- sorta popping in and out.

Thanks again,

well..... I cannot really understand the nature of the problem.... but maybe your card doesn'r support DX7 or OGL APIs very well... you then could do the following:

1. upgrade your card drivers, they are available for free in every card manufacturer page

2. try pete's DX6 D3D plugin.... being compatible with the oldest technology, ten it won't give you any issues with your card...(I guess)

try that and tell me your results....

Here we go!

I made a quick video of the jitter effect I'm talking about. This might just be normal, I'm not sure

Check it out and lemme know what ya think!

Thanks very much for helping me!

P.S. DX6 didn't do anything for me. My hardware is quite new (Geforce 4 Ti4600 and such).

then the best thing to do is to use OGL based plugins and update to the latest detonator drivers...

Well the video doesn't exists. It's blank, empty, not containing any data.
  • OpenGL is the best API for your hardware.
  • The text thing is probably a filteing mode. 4 or 6 will produce the best results
  • The jitter effect? Thatt a known issue. The PSX doesn't have sub pixel accuracy. That means that when you pup up the resoloution, the resoloution of the polygon coordinates is still in 320x240. The only real fix is running in a low rez like 640x480 and using FSAA

The jittering is actually present on the actual PSX, however the resolution is so low that you don't notice it unles you're really paying attention.
