epsxe hangs with medievil 2 and rayman 1

Hi,
epsxe (1.5.2, but I tried also older versions, various plugins & settings & bioses), win98, DX8.1.
Epsxe hangs:
a) in Medievil 2 when entering Kensingtone
I tried to run the game in pscx, load saved game (NOT savestate!), but probllem appears here, too.

b) in Rayman 1 on Ubisoft logo (music theme plays and nothing more)

In both cases Esc can be used to exit epsx, but Del do not work (when pressed, nothing happens). It doesn not matter if running CD or ISO - the same behaviour..

Any idea ? Is the problem in epsxe, or in any plugin ?

New information to Medievil2:
I tried various plugins and one of them (some CDrom plugin ?) shows picture of CDrom disc with exclamation mark. So it seems to be a CDrom problem ? The disc is black (original), with no visible defect. ISO image of the disc was made without problems. In one directory NONE of files can be read (viewed in file commander). (The game worked perfectly until entering Kensigton).
So - is it any kind of protection ?

Problem with Medievil2 "solved": it is protected game and I failed run it from _original_ CD disc, no setiings change (subchannels ...) helped. I found a patch for the game on net, patched ISO image and this works. I entered Kensington! :-)
