Dont you just _love_ these FF9 problems?

Hello and welcome to yet another audition of "i cant play the frickin' game FF9".
Todays problem incorporates a common sundrome called "crashes" and the location of this "crash" is right after the battle with sir rustalot when you get Vivi. You know, on the theater after the princess's dramatic scene and subsequent cape torching by Vivi's fire spell.

The game just locks up with a black screen, although you can still faintly see the scenery in the blackness. No sound is heard either.

These are the settings i use in Petes openGL plugin:

Plugin: Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.1.67
Author: Pete Bernert
Card vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
GFX card: GeForce2 MX/AGP/3DNOW!

Resolution/Color:
- 640x480 Fullscreen - Desktop changing [32 Bit]
- Keep psx aspect ratio: off

Textures:
- Default
- Filtering: 0
- Hi-Res textures: off
- Palettized tex windows: on
- Garbage collection: on
- VRam size: 0 MBytes

Framerate:
- FPS limitation: on
- Frame skipping: off
- FPS limit: 60

Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 3
- Framebuffer texture: 0
- Framebuffer access: 0
- Alpha multipass: on
- Mask bit: off
- Advanced blending: off

Misc:
- Scanlines: off
- Line mode: off
- Unfiltered FB: off
- Dithering: off
- Screen smoothing: on
- Screen cushion: off
- Game fixes: on [00000600]

The _only_ game ive ever experiences lockup problems with is FF9

Ive already tried playing without the use of savestates but the results remain exactly the same

ive also tried using the setting described on Kane's homepage but the lock up remained on the exact same place.
My comp is an AMD 1,4 mhz, 256 MB RAM and nothing overclocked or anything. Im running Win98 and ePSXe 1.5.2

Your CD is scratched?
Or does your ISO have a bad image?

Well. a new image and the results have changed. now it crashes even earlier than before, right after the first stage-fight when Zidane is leaving the guards room. only this time the music keeps playing. its not MDecs related or whatever since i even tried closing down _all_ sound, just to make sure. and its not savestate problems this time either since i played from the first moogle without even touching the F1 button..

(sigh. this is depressing. obviously god doesnt want me to be able to play this on the comp)

Actually, I believe that the chances of it working in your computer is greater than the PSX (FF9 I mean). I had a game (Brave Fencer Musashi) that was scratched beyond belief, but yet it worked in my PC. You PSX CD may be scratched.... badly.

If your CD is really scratched you can exchange it in your local PSX store or via the Sony Customer support. Or try making the image with CloneCD @ slowest speed.

Or use CDRwin, and put "read retry" to 50,
slower speed can help as it's said in the previous post...
but it may take a while, so be patient

It's the Jap version?
