Low FPS - game is way to slow

Ok. I've been all over the boards trying to figure this out. I have tried Lord Kane's site, I have tried many of the specs posted. So. The Problem:

I'm trying to run Final Fantasy VII off of an ISO. The game has worked before, I had to erase everything, and so now I'm trying to set it up again.

Using P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.11, it works well, at the right speed and everything - BUT the graphics are crappy.

Using Pete's D3D Driver 1.68 and Pete's DX6 D3D Driver 1.68, the display is... messed up - the full image appears in the top left corner, not over the whole screen. Then the big problem - the FPS is running between .5 and 2.6. Reeaally slow.

Using Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.68, the graphics seem fine, but the FPS is still running between .5 and 2.6

So. What have I done to screw this up, and how can I fix it? I'm really sorry if this has been addressed before, but I can't find anything that helps.

thanks,
~Kairi CC

If you've been to Kane's site, then it could be hardware limitations. What are your computer's specs (particularly video card)?

Erm... I'm not sure what info you mean when you say "specs", but the video card is a 3dfx Voodoo3. If you tell me what else you need to know, I should be able to find out ^_^
thank you!

Specs = Specifications.

Vodoo eh? Maybe Lewpy's will be better for you.

I downloaded and installed Lewpy's 3dfx/Glideł GPU 1.40, but it won't work - basically says that it can't find a 3dfx card, but my Device Manager says that I do have one... erg.

Try installing different drivers, such as the 3Dfx reference drivers or the drivers that came with the card. It's possible you're using the Windows drivers, which only have basic (or nonexistent) 3D acceleration support.

Ok, I've been playing with the P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.11 to pass time waiting for replys, and now my FPS on *that* has droped down between 2 and 15! When I first ran the game with it, it was running between 25 and 60 (which was pretty good), then it dropped down between 20 and 30, now this... I'm so confused...

Ok, for drivers, search through this site.

You could always buy the PC version of FFVII. It would probably work much better.

If possible, look into a new vid card. Yours is kinda outdated and cant run as fast as others' can. You will have to settle for imperfect graphics unless I'm mistaken.

yes, actually, I had the PC version for a while, as well... it's graphics were so screwed on my computer that I could hardly see what was on the screen ^_^ (that's just cuz I was running it on our old emachine, though.)

The really troublesome thing is that, as I said, I had FF7 working perfectly on this computer just 3 months ago, and it's running perfectly on my computer in my dorm room right now. There I'm using an older version of epsxe and pete's open gl - if I remeber right. That was what used to work on this one...

ok, enough ranting. I'll try the site w/ the drivers. Thank you

I know what you feel guys when it falls to 5 to 10 FPS..

but the most strange thing, Older OpenGl Gpu of Pete works fine and giving me 60 - 80 FPS, now giving me .1 - 3 FPS..

So the older Pete's open gl worked for you with the older epsxe, but with the new one it's dropped your FPS? Yeah, that sounds like the problem I'm having...

I looked at the drivers site, but this is my parent's comp, and since I don't know anything at all about drivers, I'm afraid to do something and screw it up...
