did you turn on the nVidia buggy FSAA fix? anyway, in FF9, if i enable FSAA, it slows down _very much_ at the battle swirl, but i don't know if it's the same problem (i have the switch on).

carnage: If you have fraebuffer access on the graphics card and enable FSAA, you'll kill your machine.
Only half decent way to do it is to use full vRam primatives.

If you have enought CPU power do use it.

After months and months of being frustrated with this problem, I finally found the solution. Unfortunately, I recently had to send back my video card so my computer is out of commission, so I cant post my settings, but I'll try to remember them. I use 640x480, desktop changing. I use filtering mode 4, I use the FSAA fix in the game fixes. DONT use FVRAM Primates, it blows and dosen't work well enough. Now heres the secret.
Compatibility:
- Offscreen drawing: 3----------->4
- Framebuffer texture: 2--------->3
- Framebuffer access: 3

I think those are the right settings. If I remember right, that should work. I use a TI4400 with Quincunx anti-aliasing. At 640x480 with quincunx, I think the game looks the best. At 1024 the backgrounds look blocky no matter what, so switch to 640x480. With any anti-aliasing, I never drop in FPS, and the swirls work perfectly well and fast, unlike FVRAM Primates which slows down everything imaginable.

vRam primatives uses the CPU to render the scene too. That is why it is most reliable.
On my machine, even with the FSAA fix, in 640x480 with Quincunx on, framebuffer effects will kill the card unless it is on FVP.

Well, I remember you having a ti4600, so when I get my computer up and running, Ill post my full specs. Vram primates didnt work to my satisfaction on a 1.7 P4 with a TI4400, but these settings I came up with work flawlessly at 60 FPS, and upwards of 200 without limiting, at all times. These settings will cause less strain on your machine, cause they dont require anything special, it just makes petes plugin work with AA. Try them, if they dont work i probably didn't remember right, and will post the full settings later this week.
