Ok, so awhile ago I posted about FF8 causing epsxe to lock up (when I ran from the robot spider thing at the begining of the game)
Well, I did some more testing, and it turns out it locks up WHENEVER my characters run... from the spider, from other guys, starting a new game and making them run... the CD goes quiet, the hard-drive light doesnt blink... nothing... dead... I hit ESC and it quits to the epsxe menu... I left it for dead, moved on, been playing Black and White, Fallout 2, etc... Recently, however, I realized that I hadnt tried any other games, so I tried playing FF7... now it turns out, this problem is running rampant, and whats more, it's getting worse... in FF7 the game locks up at the end of a battle, win, lose, or run... dont matter... now its doing the same for FF8... what the heck is going on? -Fuzzy |

Make an ISO and see how it goes. It might just be a scratch disk according to your describe symptoms.
Also, post your system specs as well as what EPSXE config you're using.

List of things I've tried:
Different Video Plugins (software, OGL, D3D) Different Audio Plugins Different CD Plugins Different Versions Of ePSXe ISO of FF8, not 7 though I've also gotten it working on a friend of mines copy of VGS... and on his PSX... but seeing as I cant exactly use those over here, at my house... thats not really a solution... I'm wondering why the older versions of ePSXe dont work any more... I mean, they used to play the games fine... heck 1.5.2 used to play them fine... this is a NEW problem... Whats confusing me probably the most, is the fact that it's happening in both FF7 and FF8... I bet if I tried another game something similar would happen... Anyways, heres my system config: Intel Celeron 900mHz Asus CUV4X-C Win98 320MB PC133 RAM 15GB HD 3.45GB Free 50X CD (though the speed tests I've done say its actually a 12X max) GeForce2 MX 100/200 32MB Oh... and I dont use savestates, but I dont see how it would make a difference, seeing as this is now effecting my game WHEN I START!!! I'm talkin' first battles here, cloud jumps off the train... *boom* fights the baddies, and at the end of the battle... nothing... just him standing there as if the CD cover had been opened... (In FF8 it actually goes to the booty screen where you get XP/GP... but just empty blackness from there) -Fuzzy |

No one else seems to have had this problem. Have you tried running hte game from an ISO?
What setting do you have framebuffer access/textures on?

Tried an ISO, and it didnt help... but it runs on VGS and on a real PSX...
Framebuffer Access: GFX card buffer & software Framebuffer Textures: GFX card reads and moves *sigh* probably just end up fixing it with a clean format of my hard drive... 's been a long time since I did that... probably needs it anyway... 's a lot of work tho... Oh well -Fuzzy |
