Unhappy FF7 - can only run in software

I bought myself a copy of FF7 last day (finally), and was going to start it on epsxe. The game started but came only to the screen that says: Sony Europe presents (or something like that) and then it froze. I was using Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.64. I tried some other plugins but they didn't work. Then i tried Pete's soft driver 1.50, and the the game started! I can run the game now, but the characters and some other stuff look really ugly (you can clearly see the pixels) and that's not fun . And another thing, the game sometimes crashes witout a reason: Explorer has caused an error in petesoftgpu (or something like that), and I can't press escape during the gameplay, because if I do and then select continue the same error comes up.
I have a:
PIII 500
Riva TNT2 Ultra

I'd appreciate if anyone could help me. Thanks in advance.

That's normal, it is not frozen but way low FPS at that screen, so wait untill it's gone.
