Dach! This is yet another Chrono Cross player in distress, and no Newby at that. I perused all twelve or so other pages of the forum, and found only one other person with a problem that seemed similar. Unfortunately, he happened to mention that his game was pirated, and as such his thread was closed before any help could be given. So first things first: MY GAME IS BRAND NEW, BOUGHT FROM WALMART TODAY with the hopes that my old disk may have been scratched, and as such, disfunctioning. Well, that twenty dollars came to no avail. So here's my problem: When I go to switch from disk 1 to disk 2, the game freezes. I go into the fate distortion thingy, the pillar of light appears, the screen darkens, then lightens, then fades, and it asks me to insert the second disk. Unfortunately, at this point the frame counter stops dead around 45 and I can elicit no response from the game, no matter if I swap the CD's, change the ISO's, do either and mash buttons in desperation, or hit any and all F_ keys in random and/or systematic order. I did try using ePSXe's CD switch function, but regardless of whether I am switching CD's or ISO's (which, in my case, are the same thing as CD's anyway, as they are loaded as virtual CD-ROM's through DAEMON tools), I encounter a General Protection Fault before it manages to get from the GPU back to the game. Dach! Any ideas? I am using PEOpS 1.7 with mostly default settings (a little prettier, though), EternalSPU 1.3 with all default settings except the SPU fix, which is enabled, Pete's CD-ROM plug-in with caching disabled, as the game doesn't run well with it on (doesn't hurt speed any, anyway), and I have tried both ePSXe 1.52 and 1.50 to see if it was a new bug. It is not, nor is it a scratch, and the game has run BEAUTIFULLY up until now! I have included a pic of what it looks like when it freezes. Consumate gratitude and unparalled thanks to whomever can help me solve this issue, as it is positively driving me mad!

Just about to put one up in case-- I would be most grateful! It's saved right outside the Dead Sea, but I don't know how long it is to a point where you can actually save on the other side. Maybe compress a save state? At any rate, I just need it on disk 2, and thank you in advance!

Thanks a lot--that did the trick, as I suppose it ought to. I'm curious still to know why my game freezes then. Could I ask that someone who can switch disks post their plug-in settings and such, and maybe describe what is supposed to happen when you switch disks; maybe I can still get my game to work. That way, I wouldn't need someone to do the same thing again when my sister gets to the second disk, as she is playing as well.

I'm having the same problem with the end of disc 1 of Chrono Cross. My ePSXe crashes whenever I try to insert the second disc; not just with Chrono Cross, but with any other game or even if I start with Disc 2 and choose a new game in Chrono Cross. The immediate problem that I see is that once I leave the emulation to go to the GUI to change disc, it can't restart the emulation, even if I don't try switching discs.
I know that I can get someone here to quickly jump to disc 2 if I post my memory card data here, but being a CS student, I'd rather find out what's wrong and fix it. I also bought Chrono Cross for the replay factor, and I'll want to play it several times, and don't want the hassle of getting someone to bypass the disc change every time. I'm new to PSX emulation but not to emulation in general. I'm not sure what information someone would need to help me with this problem, but I can find it and post it. Thanks, Mike |

I vaguely recall an old error along these lines. IIRC the solution was to switch to a windowed view (alt-enter), before pressing ecs to access the gui.

Just gave it a try...If I play in window mode, it crashes before it even emulates anything (visible at least), and if I play in full-screen and then hit Alt+Enter, it switches to window mode, but pressing Esc to go back to the GUI crashes it right away.
Any other ideas? |

Are you running in the same color depth as your desktop?

Well, when i played my problem was when i swith to windowed mode, changed disk with the gui and then when i press Alt+Enter to go back to full screen mode it crached all the time. so what i did is i configured pete's plugin so that the game would sttart in windowed mode. I would switch CD's and stay in windowed mode. then i would save on the memcard and close ePSXe. I would restart it put back Full Screen Mode in pete's plugin and then enjoy the second disk.

Thanks to Lord Kane. I was running Win98 in 24-bit colour, which was the highest that my graphics card would support, but running the game in 16-bit colour, since the choices that Pete's D3D driver gave me were 16 and 32 bits. When I changed Windows colour depth to 16-bit, I was able to go to Disc 2 right away. Thanks!
