Unhappy Help Needed: Vagrant Story

I'm trying to play vagrant story from an original cdrom psx disc. The intro movie and title screen run nicely, but when I try to start a new game the cdrom loads for a few seconds, then the game hangs on a black screen. :confused:

Current epsxe config

GPU - Pete's OpenGL 1.61
SPU - Eternal 1.3
CDR - Pete's CDR ASPI/IOCTL Driver 1.10

PC config
AMD AthlonXP1600
Gainward GF2/mx400
Onboard sound AC'97
A'Open 12X DVD-ROM/ASH

If it helps here's a log file

* Running ePSXe emulator version 1.5.1.
* Memory handlers init.
* ePSXe: PSX BIOS loaded [C:\EPSXE151\Bios\SCPH1001.BIN].
* Init cdrom ... [D] ok
* Cdrom open... ok
* Mci disabled, cdda supported by cdrom plugin.
* Force PAL cdrom detected.
* Doing init gpu[0]...
* Gpu open[0]...
* Direct input init ok.
* Doing spu init...
* Spu open...

thanks

You must to create a subchannel info, for that, go to the pete's cd plugin, select "use suchannel info sbi/m3s" and click on the button below (create sbi...) Select "read suchannel from CD", name your file (ex: vagrant.sbi" ). you must select .sbi files, it's important. Click on the button. At End of the process, in the CD window, you must specify you uses the vagrant.sbi.

Or you can also use a ppf patch and load it with either EpsxE's built in support or the option in petes cdr plugin which your using..

I find that odd, as I never had that problem with my version, and I don't enable Subchannel reads or use a patch. I'm using the UK PAL version, and considering you live in New Zealand (right?) you would be using the same version. What are your plugin settings?

I've tried creating an sbi file, but after inserting the psx disc I get a message saying "error reading subchannels!"

Try.. in the Eternal plugin, enabling the three special game fix options, disabling wait until XA buffer is free. Disable IRQ Hack in the emulator... If that don't work.... I don't really know.

If you had only one CDrom drive, try a patch, because this error means that your drive don't support subchannel, or your CD is a copy.

Disable "Don't wait until drive..." and "show message box on read error" in the CDrom option, and retry the sbi file...

As I mentioned, it shouldn't need patching, or subchannel support.

I just got this game and cant seem to get it working tried quite a few things but nothing seemed to work. I have the PAL version and am using the PPF patch file. Tha game locks up at the load screen after you press start new game.

Here are my specs and config. Does this game run with any certain Bios? Is there something i havent tried yet, apart from subchannel reading.
