ePSXe - Help with saving!!

Hey,

I've been playing the game Saga Frontier for awhile now and unfortunately, I've been having problems with saving, loading save states, and all those stuff. In the game, I can recall that I have saved 3 game files. When I first started playing the game, I have one game file saved. Then I decided I wanted another game file. So then I start another one....and saved it. The problem is, everytime I open ePSXe again, my second file is gone and only my first game file was there. I was really upset since my second file was way better than my first file . Can anyone tell me what happened? Is there any way I can retrieve the lost game file?? O yeah by the way, I also started a third game to see whether the problem would come up again and it did. What's going on?? PLEASE HELP!

you are probably not exiting out of the emulator correctly, you are supposed to hit "esc" in-game to bring you back to the GUI, from there you go to file>exit. any other method (clicking the "X" at the top right hand corner of the GUI, closing it via task manager, etc.) will put your save data at risk to being lost, and no i dont think you can get your data back once something like this happens.

Perhaps you're not doing that in the right way:

1- To Save : Hit F1
2- To choose/Change a savestate : hit F2,,,and pay attention here, during game play, you have to be very awaken to not to save on the same sstate,,,and thats what causes your lost !
3- Load state : hit F3

no i did, i even made a save state for back up. O and about that, the save states won't load also. And I did the proper way of saving it too, by pressing F1 for saving and pressing F2 to switch the slots. Everytime I press F3, nothing happens. But what's weird is that I have the save state files in the sstates folder, and they still won't load. :S

OOOOOOOOOk, thats a long bad way, anyway, here we go :

1- First you have to ensure that your ePSXe emulator works fine (don't worry about savestates or memcards...blabla), just worry about runing bios/games with ePSXe.........OK

2- Now, that ePSXe emu works fine we can move to ePSXeCutor,,,must download ePSXeCutor and get the files contained in the compressed file, and copy all of them to the same folder where ePSXe.exe is (must do that or it wont work).

3- Run ePSXeCutor.exe : you will see a pop-up window, than a full-one with many stuff,,,dont get pannic its nothing compared to ePSXe, but it needs some time to get ride of it.

4- BASIC IDEA OF ePSXeCutor : the idea is simple, say that you own 1000 playstation games, and each game needs a special configuration/fixes than others do, so will you keep changing them for each game in ePSXe? and can your mind keep all those stuff for 1000 games?,,,,mmm, of course not, then here we are with a tool to do so,,,and ePSXeCutor provides other stuff too (like sstate manager...etc),,,PLZ refer to README files included with, since it needs a lot of time to do so, some effort from your side and I'll help in future, promis

right but have you been exiting out of the emulator the correct way? if you are saving correctly its not going to make any difference because if you are not exiting out of epsxe the way you are supposed to, your data is likely to be lost once you close it down.

right click the files and in their properties menu make sure they are not set to "read-only".

Leave pics aside, they're for nothing, and to add some to your knowledge, there are some sstates that are created w/o generating a pic with them!!

ok why dont we focus on getting the memory card saving method to work first before messing with save states because you really shouldnt be using them in place of memory card saves anyway if that is what you are doing, they are unstable and are prone to becoming corrupt over time and until i can get a better idea of what you are doing and how you are exiting out of the emulator the save state thing is just going to add to the confusion. i need to know exactly how you are exiting out of epsxe before i go any further with this.

i do both. I save within the game and save outside the game (meaning using the save states method). I do this so either way, I have back up files.

ok how do you exit out of the emulator when you want to stop using it? do you go back to the GUI and then do file>exit or do you do something else like shutting it down via task manager or hitting the X in the GUI window?

If I remember correctly, ePSXe save states don't work with Saga Frontier.

as far as i know with epsxe the save states save all of the state infomation so yes the memory card would be included.

yeah now that you mention it i think that is right, i had thought about bringing that up but i couldnt remember if it was epsxe or another emulator that this issue was going on with.

@threadstarter, if you have any other games aside from saga frontier, it would be a big help to us if you could test the save functions with both save state and memory card saves. that would confirm what exodus just mentioned.

I don't understand. :S How can there be savestate files in the sstates folder tho? There are two save state files in the folder including with each pic which is the exact number of times I used the save states.
