Problem with Silent Hill
Hi, I'm getting a black screen when I try to load my Silent Hill disc, it's the original PSX disc, so I go to 'Run CD-ROM' to play it and end up with a black screen :/. I followed all the advice in the stickys here, but still no luck.
I'm on Windows XP, Pentium 4, and followed all the instructions in the config utility. The errors that I get from ePSXe are: Init Core w2k cdrom . . . D:error gettrackinfo error4 NTSC CDROM detected Warning: CDROM read mode unknown and then finally, after all the GPU and Input stuff checks out okay i get this: error reading CD 0,2,6 error reading CD 0,2.0 I'm sure that the 'error reading...' stuff means my CD is messed up, but what about the other stuff, specifically the Init Core w2k cdrom . . . D error ? Am I using the wrong CD rom driver from the setup utility? I'm using Pete's D3D GPU drivers also btw. Last edited by coldfire; April 15th, 2008 at 01:11. make sure subchannel reading from cdrom enabled and make sure it is pointed to the correct cd drive. i actually suggest making an image of the disc and running the game that way since the performance is usually better.
as for the other errors, are there any visable scratches on the disc? does it work on a real ps? you should try playing it on another emulator too like psx or pcsx.

yessss, got it working with pSX, thanks for the help~ I did try making an image but the disc had too many bad sectors on it. So far so good in pSX though, I've tried several discs including SH and they all work.

you should actually attempt to make an image of the disc with at least 3 or so different ISO programs because one of them might be able to pull it off but make sure you clean it as good as you can before doing it. ive had this happen to myself before so the effort might be worth it.
