I am using epsxe to play FFT from my cd-rom. The game loads fine and plays fine up until a character uses an ability or magic which at that point the game will freeze/ slow to a crawl and not recover, i cannot get past the first battle.
Processor- Intel core 2 duo t5450 1.66 ghz Graphics- NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS my computer shouldnt have trouble processing this so i am confused, i have tried multiple setups, not sure what the problem is, if the opening movie and sound and graphics are all fine, what would cause the game to freeze when animations occur- if there is a specific setup for me any of you are aware of i would appreciate the help. if u need any other info on my computer i will supply it promptly. thanks ps- i have read all tactics related posts but am yet to find settings that get me past a magic spell or a special ability without the game freezing Plugin: Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.6 Author: Pete Bernert Card vendor: NVIDIA Corporation GFX card: GeForce 8400M GS/PCI/SSE2 Resolution/Color: - 640x480 Window mode - Internal X resolution: 1 - Internal Y resolution: 1 - Keep psx aspect ratio: off - No render-to-texture: off - Filtering: 5 - Hi-Res textures: 0 - TexWin pixel shader: off - VRam size: 0 MBytes Framerate: - FPS limitation: on - Frame skipping: off - FPS limit: Auto Compatibility: - Offscreen drawing: 2 - Framebuffer effects: 3 - Framebuffer uploads: 1 Misc: - Scanlines: off - Mdec filter: off - Screen filtering: on - Shader effects: 0/1 - Flicker-fix border size: 0 - GF4/XP crash fix: off - Game fixes: off [00000000] also i have created an iso image so if you can help me with that setup instead that would be cool Last edited by DrJonz024; April 12th, 2008 at 15:08. your copy must be PAL, try using a .ppf patch.

Well, I was having this exact same issue across multiple emulators and with various graphics plugins. Game ran rather smoothly, but every time there was a special animation like using an item, or casting a spell the game would hang for a good three or four seconds. Sometimes it wouldn't even recover, but would drop to an abysmal 4 or 5 FPS.
So, I tried the Delta utility which I hadn't used in the past, but figured I'd give it a shot and try using the recommended settings it came with for FFT. Still no luck. Then on a whim, I ripped an image from the CD using the Delta utility, and whaddya know, worked like a champ. Game runs even more smoothly than before, not even the slightest hint of a slowdown with spells, items, etc. Long story short, try using a disk image. Cleared my slowdown problems right up. If you'd like, I can post the other plugin details, too. Currently running on a stock ASUS G2K-A1: AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile (2 cores @ 2.2Ghz), ATI Radeon HD 2600 Mobility 256Mb VRAM, 2 gigs RAM, 160Gb HDD. |
