Grandia I prob

Hi,

Most of the time whenever I try to load a save state in Grandia I, the background music stops. Like, all ingame sounds are still there (beeps, footsteps, etc) but the game plays without any background music. Is there any way to restart the music, or get it to start playing again after I load a save state? Would any specific plugin configurations help?

I am using ePSXe 1.5.2 with Pete's D3D and Eternal Spu 1.41 to play the game (default settings for the Eternal plugin), and have Enable Sound checked, Enable CDDA Sound checked, Enable XA sound checked, and Enable SPU IRQ hack unchecked.

I've searched this forum, but have found no particular solution to this problem.

Thanks in advance.

dont use save states, load from a memory card save. and just generally speaking, for the eternal spu plugin i suggest setting it up like this:

audio device- directsound
buffer size- 64
audio-out method- thread

all 3 special game fixes enabled

"wait for XA buffer is free" enabled under the "misc" section

neill's reverb

Oh, ok thanks for the sound config.

So there's no workaround to the save states? Has anyone seen if save states work on another emulator without the above problem on Grandia? I've already tried psxeven, but maybe pSX or any of the others might do it...

you can attempt to load the state over and over again until it works but i cant really say for sure that it will work for you. i never recommend using save states over actual memory card saves due to things like this, i only use them for backups. and unfortunately i dont have this game myself, so i dont really know how it would react on a different emulator. sorry.

Yeah, unfortunately my main reason for playing games on an emulator is the use of save states - a very nice and handy feature at annoying points in certain games. Otherwise, why go through all the trouble with an emulator when I have a working console?

Of course, my second plus point of being able to unlock the frame limit to speed things up is still working... sort of (the audio sometimes gets out of sync for Grandia :/ )

they can be handy sometimes but dont rely on them all the time, in some situations they can really screw you over. most people use epsxe for the visual enhancement features some of its plugins offer, but if save states are your thing, just be careful with them. and if you set the FPS limit higher than what it would normally be (60 for ntsc and 50 for pal) you could end up with sync issues depending on how far off your setting is from the norm. this doesnt always happen but it is definitely something that could, so if the audio sync is that bad for you try lowering the limit back down to what it should be for your version.

True, the visuals are enhanced, but I can also see more graphics-related glitches in games as well when playing on an emulator rather than on the actual console. I mean, I was jaw-droppingly impressed at how the graphics in Final Fantasy 7 were enhanced with epsxe, but certain things in the game had degraded also, like the battle swirl.

But anyway, this is getting quite off topic. Thanks so much for your replies Mr. jon c; I really appreciate how helpful you are to answering my questions time and time again.
