FF8 Saving situations

Alright. So here's the deal. I've been playin' FF8, and the first day, it worked great.
Then day two came about. And I tried loading up my save. Uh-oh.. Nowhere to be found. Hey no problem, just found out about the fast forward thing, saved me a ton of time. Got back to where I was in no time.
Day 3. ****... it saved one of those saves... and... thats... it... I logged 5 hours, and it only saved the first 45 min...
Anyone know what the hell is happening? I save constantly, ya know.. having played this game at least 9 times, I know whens a good time to save.

So, I've been slowly, but surely making my way through the game... one save at a time, and every time I start back up, it drops me back to the first save... Any help here guys?

there are 5 save states that can be used in many games as you like (meaning save states slots themselves are not shared between games, if you make a save state in slot 1 for one game, that slot still be free for use in another game). to make one, press the F1 key, to scroll through the 5 states, press F2, and to load the save state you want, you press F3. however i dont recommend using save states as the primary method of saving, they are unstable and can sometimes cause more harm than good. if you use them, limit to using them only as a backup of some sorts to your memory card save. anyway, are you exiting out of epsxe correctly? you cant just close the "x" in the upper right hand corner of the GUI window or (if you are using version 1.5.2 or below), the one in the black box window. the right way to exit out is by pressing the "esc" key while in-game to return to the GUI, from there, go to file>exit. not doing this can and usually will result in loss of any saved data made during the session.

edit- one other thing, is this issue happening in ff8 only or is it occuring in every game you try to use memory card saving?
