Chrono Cross Running Slow
Alright i'm having trouble getting chrono cross running right. The problem is that its running really slow, like in slow motion. I just started the game, the intro stuff all ran fine, but once in-game started up its really slow. I've messed around with the GPU settings like crazy and nothing seems to help the cause. Here are my specs....
Plugin: Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.1.76 Author: Pete Bernert Card vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. GFX card: RADEON X800 Series Resolution/Color: - 800x600 Window mode [32 Bit]- Keep psx aspect ratio: on Textures: - R8G8B8A8 - Filtering: 4 - Hi-Res textures: 0 - VRam size: 0 MBytes Framerate: - FPS limitation: on - Frame skipping: off - FPS limit: 60.0 Compatibility: - Offscreen drawing: 2 - Framebuffer texture: 0 - Framebuffer access: 4 - Alpha multipass: on - Mask bit: on - Advanced blending: on Misc: - Scanlines: off - Line mode: off - Unfiltered FB: off - 15 bit FB: off - Dithering: off - Screen smoothing: off - Screen cushion: off - Game fixes: on [00001000] I'm using an older GPU from Pete's because the latest one wouldnt work for me either. When i tried using the 2.8, whenever I loaded the game (or tried to load it) i would just get an error popup saying "No Buffer Available!". I'm on winxp sp2, and i have the latest graphics drivers. I'm running this from an ISO file also. Any ideas? UPDATE: i tried playing alittle to see if anything changes. During the battles my fps is at 60 and it runs at normal speed. Its when i'm running around the world my fps drop to 30 max and its in slow motion. Last edited by Gejj; April 2nd, 2008 at 09:16. |

what were your settings in the OGL 2.8 plugin, as long as your using a driver before 7.4 you'll have no artifact issues with it.
the buffer issue commonly comes up when the Y resolution is set higher then the card supports.

Ah that fixed the buffer problem. I had X and Y both set at 2. I took it down to 1 for both and the 2.8 works now.
Unfortunately the 2.8 is still giving me the same slowness in-game though. Plugin: Pete's OpenGL2 Driver 2.8 Author: Pete Bernert Card vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. GFX card: RADEON X800 Series Resolution/Color: - 800x600 Window mode - Internal X resolution: 1 - Internal Y resolution: 1 - Keep psx aspect ratio: on - No render-to-texture: off - Filtering: 6 - Hi-Res textures: 0 - TexWin pixel shader: on - VRam size: 0 MBytes Framerate: - FPS limitation: on - Frame skipping: off - FPS limit: 60.0 Compatibility: - Offscreen drawing: 2 - Framebuffer effects: 3 - Framebuffer uploads: 1 Misc: - Scanlines: off - Mdec filter: on - Screen filtering: on - Shader effects: 0/1 - Flicker-fix border size: 0 - GF4/XP crash fix: off - Game fixes: on [00001000] Getting like 20-30fps which creates a slow motion effect still. |

dont use any OLG plugins with your system unless you follow what squall said. your only other options are to use a d3d or software plugin. and make sure you are using epsxe version 1.5.2 with CC.

Ok catch this. I had Chrono Cross running perfect with the best settings. windows did some security update and restarted my computer. Now It wont run right even on the worst settigs. (I do not know if there is a correlation between the two.) I was using plugin D3D driver 1.5.8. I also have tried pete's new drivers.
I have a AMD 64bit processor 3200+ 1 gig of ram. Running Windows XP x64 (64bit os) I have the newest graphics drivers from ATI. ( I do not see any logic in this problem that has occured, and any help to resolve this issue will be appriciated.) |

do other games show the same behavior? is it just slowdown you are getting or are there any visual/audio glitches as well?

hmm... this is weird. I went and adjusted my display settings in catalyst control center (ATI) and it seems to be be working now. ( I still dont understand how a restart would affect this.) I use 36fps which works great for me anything more and it runs to fast.

I use 1.5.2 for Chrono Cross. It seems to be working ok now. I still noticed a couple glitches I didnt have before. Theres no explination for why it wasnt working before, and why it works now. (all my settings are the same)

Just remember to manually set the ammount of memory your gfx card has in the plugin options.

I use the new ATI drivers and Catalyst Control Center (CCC) and it seems that the settings may have changed during system restart. Either way I have resolved the issue by manually adjusting the settings after a system restart. So for everyone having graphics problems make sure you have the newest drivers from your manufacturer which if its ATI like me than you'll have to use the application to manually adjust the settings after a restart. p.s. anyone else experience this? 64bit OS
