I think Squall-Leonhart may be on to something with the conspiracy theory, the other day I was thinking "Maybe ATI delibrately messed up their OpenGL drivers so that Microsoft would give them some sort of advantage that allowed them to have DX10.1 and use it as a marketing tool". Wouldn't suprise me seeing as AMD is losing to both Nvidia and Intel.

well everybody knows, YOU DON'T SKIMP ON SUPPORT.
...though nvidia did it in the past when dropping 32bit Z support from their drivers (the asshats)

I found a solution that worked for me, in XP, and didn't require me to downgrade my drivers, which is nice.

Simply put, I just dropped the older OpenGL dll's into EPSXE's folder. (I used the ATIOGLx2.dll and ATIOGLXX.dll from catalyst 7.11, not sure if I needed both or not)

It seems, for me at least, to have fixed the problem without having any other effect. I didn't change anything else and the triangles just went away. Didn't even need to reboot.

Don't know if anyone else has pointed this out, if they have just ignore this message...

Do you mean like in my screenshot? Also I dropped the dlls from 7.9, the ones that OpenGL extensions viewer say 'this is missing but is available in 6.10.14.6847' into my System32 and SysWow64 folders (backed up the current ones) and it had less extensions and still said unavailable!

Like that, though I didn't see atioglx2.dll, (I don't even know if it exists on Vista). The only problem though, is that I don't have Vista so I don't know if it would work on that OS.

It works in XP, as far as I can tell, because when a dll is called the program looks for that dll all over the place, starting with the folder that the exe was launched from. I don't know that the pathing is the same on Vista, though I'd hope it was.

I've attached a shot of my directory, to try to make it clearer.untitled.JPG

Thanks. Unfortunately, putting these files in the ePSXe folder causes the emulator to close by itself when loading a game. This may be due to my video card being too new, so your DLL files may definitely work for some people with this issue.

Whats the relation between the atioglxx.dll and atioglx2.dll in XP, and the atio6axx.dll and atio6ax2.dll in XP64? These x2 drivers aren't in Vista 64. I've found that the xp64 atio6ax2 is larger (13.9mb) than Vista's atio6axx (13.6mb) but XP64's atio6axx is smaller (5mb). I tried replacing the xx witht the x2 to no avail, I also renamed x2 to ax but that brought the same result, namely that ePSXe will just crash straight away ather than any triangles.

I wish I knew.

As I said, I don't know Vista since I have been avoiding it. (My PC is old enough without slowing it down any more than necessary)

I've downloaded the Vista64 7.3 drivers and extracted the dll's, which you can try, but I really have no idea how effective this will be. I hope it will, but there is no way to be certain. However, on a previous page d0x! suggested that rolling back to 7.4/7.3 could fix the problem. If this is so, then perhaps these dll's will work.

Apparently so, though only one so far.

Well, two if I count me...

Was there any version of the driver for your card that worked with the opengl2 plugin? If there were it might be possible to extract the opengl dll's from that driver set to get around the problem.

x64 doesn't play well with floating point values, so the extra size is probably the replacement of Floating point values with Static values.

Not that I'm aware of, I'm afraid. My desktop card has fairly poor support even in the latest catalysts (as it is the AGP version of the HD 3850). I suspect that your DLLs will probably work with my laptop X700 graphics, though.

For now, the Soft GPU seems to work the best for me, and it looks pretty terrible with 3D games. The D3D plugin is too slow to viably use. A big shame, since my old 6800 Ultra looked great with the OpenGL2 plugin, and I'll probably not upgrade for a few years.

Well no previous Vista drivers have worked for me from 7.2 to 8.3 and I think 7.2 was the first Vista driver to support OpenGL. Now then, there is a xml file called atiogl.xml that when opened has a list of programs, I'm thinking that only the programs on the list will work, I e-mailed ATi asking if this was the case and they didn't reply.

I tried renaming ePSXe as DOOM 3.exe and others on the list as I'd read on other sites about having to rename exe files so that they'd work with SLI/Crossfire, well It didn't work. So far I've tried dlls from multiple XP drivers going back to the 6.6 Catalyst that came on the CD with the card.

Summary: No OpenGL ICD installed, no OpenGL hardware acceleration
Details: Having tried all versions of Catalyst from 7.1 to 8.1 Hotfix, there is no OpenGL hardware acceleration in ePSXe (a popular playstation emulator).

Many other people are experiencing severe graphics errors involving black triangles as evidenced by the attached pictures and following forum topics:

Summary: No OpenGL ICD
Details: For MORE THAN A YEAR (22nd February 2007)OpenGL has not worked properly on my SAPPHIRE 1600PRO 256MB DDR2 card. Now this may be due to these circumstances:

1)The SKU# of my graphics card is 11071-35-20R and not 11071-00-50 as per the drop down list, perhaps the driver inf doesn't fully recognise this card and so doesn't install the ICD.

2)After much fiddling I noticed that the Vista x64 drivers lack atio6ax2.dll and atioglx2.dll which are in the XP64 drivers, but have atio6aax.dll and atioglxx.dll

3)Having expanded atio6ax2.dl_ to atio6ax2.dll and placing it in the C:\Windows\system32 folder still no ICD installed.

4)Having expanded atioglx2.dl_ to atioglx2.dll and placing it in the C\Windows\syswow64 folder still no ICD installed.

5)I also tried copying atio6ax2.dl_ and atioglx2.dl_ to the

C:\ATI\SUPPORT\8-2_vista64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_58134\Driver\Packages\Dri vers\Display\LH6A_INF\B_58538

folder and also copied the CH_59345 and renamed it to CH_59347 then reinstalled but still no result.

Now, please get back to me about the SKU of my graphics card and if it affects the OpenGL ICD installation.

Have you somehow missed including the atio6ax2.dll and atioglx2.dll in the Vista x64 drivers for a whole year?

Does OpenGL only work in the applications listed in atiogl.xml?

How comes Nvidia have a working ICD, it works on my other computer with an GeForece FX5200, surely a Radeon 1600pro is a better card?

This issue is making me consider a Nvidia graphics card over an ATI one in a new PC, the AMD 780G Motherboards look good on paper but your OpenGL problems will affect those too. If I get an Intel G35 motherboard AMD miss out on me buying an ATI graphics card, chipset and CPU.

People on YOUR OWN FORUMS are complaining about the OpenGL or rather lack of:

AMD Game Forums - OpenGL with a Radeon X800xt on Vista

and other people here:

Pete`s Messageboard Forum - PSX GPU plugins - Attn Pete: OpenGL GPU Plugin, vertex buffer/primitive assembly bug - Seite 1

Performance issues w/ Pete's OpenGL2 2.8 and Vista/Vista ATI Drivers

FFVII black triangles?

By the way, I solved the ICD problem with the registry entry mentioned earlier, I can't attach the xml.

New Catalyst 8.3 Hotfix for HD series cards, not noticed any improvements on my X1600, the OpenGL driver is the same version (6.10.14.7412) but the Catalyst version says 8.4. Anyway it still doesn't work.
