Regardless...
Anyway, it seems that Ati haven't heard of customer service much... that's why I offered these experimentations, so we'll be able to track down the root of the problem ourselves. then, maybe we'll be able to find a solution. |

Well Schumi-4-eva, ATI should care that their OpenGL doesn't work in ANY applications according to this attached screenshot, it seems to either be done in software, or via directx. This triangle issue is proof of something not working properly in their drivers.
As a developer maybe ATi would listen to Pete, and seeing as there is nothing wrong with his plugins, its their fault.

ok guys, I have some good news and some bad news
The bad news is that installing OmegaDrivers(7.12 based) didn't solved the problem How ever, I believe that I have another evidence piled up against Ati here. Before I start however I must emphasize that I did what I did because I know what im doing and how the Registry works so don't come to me if you get in trouble because something I've written. I've messed around a little(thanks 22point8 against for your registry reference) and I've "forced" my pc to use Windows Xp default OpenGL 1.1 Driver "Opengl32.dll" by placing opengl32.dll instead of atioglx2.dll(or something) itw as a gamble, but hey, I tried booting my copy of discworld Noir. it was slow, it was green (?!) but the Triangles were all gone (as far as I've noticed anyway)! |

like i said, i have heard that this affects other OGL applications outside of things related to emulation. if any of you ATI users have a game like quake 4 you might be able to confirm this.

Just reread a support email that makes reference to HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{Adapter GUID}/0000/
anyway, I found this very interesting page on the internet, maybe we can fix this ourselves afterall, I don't have this registry entry though, do you? Loading an OpenGL Installable Client Driver

The thing is I don't have this entry at all. Here is the bit from the old e-mail from ATi
"We've had a look at problem you have describe. We think you are running into effects of a bad driver install. I have included a clean driver install routine so you can get a clean start. Regarding the ICD, we've had a working one for quite some time. More info to the question: The registry key to check for the OpenGL ICD driver is. HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{Adapter GUID}/0000/ It will take a bit of browsing through the Adapter Guid to find the X1600. With the 8.1 drivers the OpenGL ICD driver is atio6axx.dll" The thing is I had done a clean install of vista before installing anything, and the first thing I installd was their drivers.

Hmm Well I have the same as Mako Eyes at the first registry location.
The second one I can't find...I just have a bunch of folders with number names there... Same for the PC Wizard screenshots aswell....I noticed that for it's software emulation it IS using the MS's OpenGL driver in my system32 folder under the usual name of opengl32.dll (just click on the driver tab)....sorry if it seems like I am butting in I am just trying to help...see if I also have an issue as I have never noticed anything...then again I am used to using D3D for everything...

That entire folder seems to contain your Device Manager...so I found my card there under one of the number names (higher up, think of your device manager layout and it has to be expandable)...just the usual info as I said though...
Hmmm well I don't really have any OpenGL games to test...so I went searching for some demos found Spheres on this site which renders just fine....http://magnum.dimajix.de/download/demos.shtml...it apparently uses OpenGL extensions and needs OpenGL2.0 support...so it should show whether OpenGL works propperly or not should it not? I don't have any OpenGL games....at least nothing that I am aware of...I have some N64 emu plugins (like 1964s plugin) but I doubt those would sever as a good test....anyways feel free to suggest something else...

I found the registry entry {Adapter GUID} is actually whatever device manager says under 'Details' then scroll down to 'Device Class GUID' anyway, it contains the OpenGL drivers but I STILL have no acceleration

I have Quake 4 and don't see any graphical glitches!!
However having said that I do have Raiden III for pc and it does have glitches mainly in the players own ship and 1 of the enemies. But to see this problem at its worst try quake 2 it is horrendous cause of the probs it has due to the drivers. I was going to attach a screen shot, but it won't allow me to get a grab To explain the issues though. enemies often disappear entirely when they are standing right in front of you. You weapons are just a plain mess and the environments in the game break up extremely badly!!

catalyst control centre! Sorry for not posting that earlier
Am using an updated version from my motherboard driver as it is on-board video As I said though I have Quake 4 and I also have Doom 3 and both are glitch free!! But Quake II is stupidly bad Just realised sorry jonc, what you are probably after. Hopefully this is what you wanted to see As can be seen in the shots the numbers are identicle to 22point8's If this is not what is needed then please give a detailed explanation as to how to retrieve what is wanted and I will get it and post it.

the fact this problem started in the late 7.x series, and occurs across all ATI cards that these versions install on also further indicates this. XP Early 7.x drivers are fine Late 7.x drivers are stuffed Vista All known drivers are stuffed. As to testing opengl, i would suggest using a bunch of different games to test on, Starting with the Homeworld 1 demo, download it, then enable NT 4 compatibility, and select the opengl mode in video options.(NT4 compat is required otherwise opengl won't work at all on XP) Then Unreal Tournament Demo, get the updated Beta Opengl Driver from the UT site and enable the extra options. (its not a real driver, its just the opengldrv.dll that is used as the opengl render mode) As someone has already mentioned, Quake 2, but get the ref_q2cpgl opengl driver to test alongside the default opengl driver. since the OGL2 plugin doesn't actually use OGL 2 (unless a OGL shader is used) the problem more likely exists within the 1.3-1.5 support. as for PC Wizard, don't rely on it. Get the Realtech VR opengl extension viewer and see if the results from that match those of PCW2008

usually you can find out what drivers you are currently using by looking at the display tab in the dxdiag utility, clicking on the drive tab in the properties menu shown in the screen shots you posted, or the control panel for your card. edit- basicaly what im trying to figure out is if this is an issue existing only in certain catalyst driver versions or if it also happens with certain omega drivers.
