ROM patches are... borderline, I guess, but accepted on this board. Alterations to No$'s options and .ini are OK, changing the code of .exe is not.
And by "summarize" I meant you to tell us how this "fix" works, at least in layman's terms.

NicholasBG March 19th, 2010 20:35

I guess i will have to get back here in about 6 months or so i guess,
well...... seeing as how things are going and it is the lol road, i think i
am up for some non material betting, i bet that the Assassins Creed 2 DRM
will be cracked before we get a freeze bug free version of pokemon SS and HG:done:

Squall-Leonhart March 19th, 2010 20:46

I bet the only solution will be improving emulation.

Smilley March 19th, 2010 22:44

I've seen the infamous Youtube video now and for all those who got their hopes up, here's what it contained:
1) Use No$GBA 2.6a
2) Use Firmware and BIOS
3) Encrypt the ROM (which the vid calls "patch")
Of this, 3) isn't nessessary if you use No$Zoomer 2.3.0.2 and set the Startup/Reentry point to "Start Cartridge directly". And it doesn't help squat with the crashes after the initial load.
So tangeeogals, what to enlighten us how your fix works?

erazeal March 19th, 2010 23:56

umm yea it does, i wish i could post a video of me playing it but i dont know how and i think its better than no$zoomer because it doesnt slow the rom down. ive only had two crashes so far and now i am in euretek city (lol dont know how to spell it). im not lieing at all, it is really working wonders for me. but still it is not a complete fix. :( and was it the video by legendarypichu?

erazeal March 20th, 2010 00:30

ok smiley you were half right. i did a little test of sorts and compared no$zoomer to legendarypichu's "catalyst" and the only differences are that no$zoomer runs slower and has caused me at least 5 crashes of only playing an hour while legendarypichu's method has only caused me 2 and i am in eurteck city

erazeal March 20th, 2010 01:19

d a m n ok smiley you are all the way right. when i got to cinnawood my rom started crashing like crazy to the point that i almost threw my laptop. sorry everybody it works at the beginng towns but later on it crashes like its on crack. sorry smiley, shouldve listened

Sahariel March 20th, 2010 01:34

I have downloaded jacks*** to play this game. You don't need to encrypt or do any of that crap that I have seen.

1) No$GBA 2.6a
2) No$Zoomer 2.3.0.2
3) The NDS/GBA Bios files, which you can find if you look for them.

All you have to do is change the settings to run via GBA Bios instead of Start Cartridge Directly. THAT IS ALL!

Here are the problems I've run across so far while playing...
1) At the start of a Trainer Battle, it randomly freezes. It's not 100%, it DOES NOT follow a pattern I have seen. It just randomly happens.

Solution: Save before you get into any Trainer Battle. If it happens, close No$GBA, your save will register, you can try again. I have saved before a battle, had it freeze, reloaded, started the same battle, and it worked fine. It is random.

2) Graphical Errors
Every now and then, usually upon exiting or entering a new location, the sprites are messed up.

Solution: Sometimes cleared up by loading the PokeGear full screen and closing it. If that doesn't work, reenter/exit the nearest location. If you are worried, stop, save, close the program, and restart. Should be fine.

3) Fly
When you fly, sometimes it locks up, sometimes it doesn't. Some people are saying every three times, I say that's crap. It happens randomly just like Trainer Battles.

Solution: Save before you do it, you'll be fine.

Those are the only three errors I have come across with any regularity. I have gotten exactly ONE error where the Rom Image crashes. It happened when I entered a PokeMart. And I am serious, it's happened once in roughly 16+ hours of playing time. If it happens, suck it up, go back to your old save, start fresh from there.

Other bad things I have come across while playing...

1) PokeAthlon
Lags horribly. Could be my system, could be No$GBA. Save before you test it, if it lags badly, avoid it like the plague. The stuff you get in there is not worth the effort of dealing with the lag as horrible as it gets. ((Use a cheat to give yourself the points to buy stuff from the shop.))

2) Seal Case
Posted about this elsewhere. Supposed to get it from the MooMoo Farm. It's not there. If ANYONE gets this item after healing Miltank, please PM me about it and tell me what you did.

3) Red Gyarados/Lance the Dragon Keeper
Red Gyarados appears, and you can catch him. He did not give me a Red Scale for capture, I had to use PokeSav to get it. Lance never appeared.

If you have gone past Mahogany Town, successfully been into the Rocket Hideout, again PM me so I know that it is, in fact, possible to proceed.

Ultimately you need patience with this rom, but it is playable with No$GBA and No$Zoomer. Don't let anyone tell you it's not. It may have a few bugs and glitches, but the primary stuff works as it should. I've worked the Storage System, caught tons of Pokemon, been through the first SIX Gym Leaders and obtained the badges.

erazeal March 20th, 2010 03:00

oops ok scratch that last post. i was using my other copy of soul silver and didnt notice it until i was looking awhile ago and realized that i was in the wrong folder, so yea works just fine and sahariel is completely right although it has only happened to me three times so far but then again im not using no$zoomer.

Sahariel March 20th, 2010 03:13

Update on my former post.

The Red Gyarados/Seal Case stuff seems to be the byproduct of specific AR codes that borked the save.

Specifically the ones for bypassing the door guards at PokeAthlon, or having a Complete Data Card.

tom_mai78101 March 20th, 2010 05:38

We need to sticky this thread in some attractive way...

Anyway, it's nice to see that the game is at least playable in No$gba, after reading endlessly for 12 whole pages.

nanaya March 20th, 2010 06:56

Anyone tried this? Pokémon HG / SS USA Freeze solution - GBAtemp.net

Squall-Leonhart March 20th, 2010 06:58

lame.

the japanese version lacks support for long words.

So tangeeogals, what to enlighten us how your fix works?

I don't know if you can call it a fix, it's more like recoding the rom (you can call it hacking or whatsoever, I forgot the terminology). Anyway have you heard about the application "DSBUFF" provided I think by Nintendo and been said to "fix" the rom by deleting the file guru2.narc? Well we've been using that app but not for the purpose of whosoever put that claimed fix of guru2.narc, rather we're looking thoroughly on every file the DSBUFF decoded and re-encoding some sourcecodes on selected files to check if it has some connections with the AP program, glitches, crashes, and etc. More like trial-and-error. We've been at it since its release and up until now we can estimate completion of 65%, hypothetically. We gathered every IT/CS/and COMENG nerdy friends we have to help us out and I hope that we can have breakthrough. That is as far as I can explain it.

For Sahariel:
Your problems 1, 2, and 3 are common in the present ROM of Pokemon HG/SS and almost everyone is experiencing it. So don't fret.
Problem 4: Pokeathlon on no$gba sucks graphics. Try Desmume. It works fine.(For me it is.)
Problem 5:Seal Case is at the Moomoo farm, and yeah you have to cure Miltank to get it. Then talk to the girl on the left to recieve Seal Case.
Problem 6: The Red Gyarados WILL give you the Red Scale after its capture, and after that Lance WILL appear near the lake.

I've decided to join the DARK SIDE. YEY TEAM ROCKET!!!

tangeeogals, you and your friends keep at it, your work seems most promising so far... all the best :thumb: - GI

guru2.narc
the ****** who posted the guru2.narc stuff is someone that has been banned multiple times here for posting hacked emulators, and on other sites tried to resell hacked Console devkits.

@tangeeogals: Thanks for the insight. It's a novel approach. I root for you that it'll work out.

tangeeogals March 20th, 2010 12:37

Here is the link to our recent work of the rom. I'll ask my friend later on what updates he made in this file. Anyway this isn't complete yet but any feedbacks would be helpful to help us for future reference.:heh:

*snip*
For emulators only, no$gba settings still apply.

SCHUMI_4EVER March 20th, 2010 13:01

Surely you should know by now that links to roms are forbidden, if you can provide a patch of some sort then go ahead, if you have to provide the whole rom then forget it.
