Dragon Quest VIII -- floating statue and enemy falling through floor bug

In Rydon's tower, there's a pcsx2 bug (i'm guessing it's similar to snake in MGS3 falling through the floor) that causes the statue float in the air when pushed onto the designated blue tile. The statue is key to working the see-saw mechanism in the tower to advance to the higher floors.

There's also another case where the "lonely joe"/"hollow knight" drops through the floor when you approach it. This makes it impossible to complete Morrie's quest. So, you can't open up the monster arena.

Both the svn 239 beta and 0.9.4 release of pcsx2 have these problems.

Other than that, DQ8 plays great on pcsx2.

true, in black citadel also have this bug, make this game unplayable!!

The funniest thing happened. I had fraps running. Then I loaded a save state close to where "lonely joe" spawns. I inched closer and closer to him but staying far enough so as not to cause him to see me. Which would trigger him to come after me. When he does, that's when the bug occurs. He'll just fall through the floor before I could reach him for an encounter.

Anyway, once I started recording with fraps, I somehow managed to reach joe as he's falling halfway through the floor! I don't know if fraps had anything to do with it or not. But I'm able to work around this bug and now able to open the monster arena! Cool.

Youll have 2 push (float) the statue up to a certain floor and continue up from there

cokbun -- Can you elaborate? I don't understand what you're trying to say. As seen in the video, the statue floats and does not touch the tile to weight down the see saw on one end. Once the statue is floating, it does not 'collide' with anything. So, you can't 'float up' along with the statue as some kind of hack. Anyway, more words please.

update 1:

OMG! It worked. I started pushing the statue next to the blue slime. If you keep pushing towards the "fence" as if you're going to fall off the floor, you'll float up to the next several floors. On the upper floor you'll stop eventually, but don't let go of the statue. Keep pushing towards the "fence" and you'll reach the floor with the latter. Now you can let go of the statue. Thanks, cokbun. This looks like a good work around to this bug.

update 2:

I've finally made it to ken07's location. I get the exact same problem. The character will drop through the black part of the fake, half-circular town. Normally, after making a circle around, the game changes the appearance of the town structures. Unforunately, as you can see in ken07's video, it seems like pcsx2 can't handle whatever it is that square/enix programmed for this puzzle.

update 3:

Well, I managed to perform a complete circle even though there's only blackness. The game 'loads' the next phase of the decaying city. When you drop into this new 'level' it shows the complete circle. The black spot is gone and you no longer fall through the floor. But it looks like this also breaks whatever script that allows the next phase to load. So, you'll end up running in circles without any changes to the level.

Hey guys, i need help...

I managed to pass the tower (thanks for the tips/workarounds), but now i'm stuked on "Dark Empycchu" (the city that doesnt have colors).

Everytime I enter the city, the emulator crash. And I know it's the emulator, not GS plugins, because on some places I had to change from pcsx2 0.9.5 (the emulator simple crash) to 0.9.4 (a lot of "vmhack" appears on the log screen and some garbage on the screen, but emulator dont crash).

But in Dark Empycchu nothing works. Already tested 0.9.4, 0.9.5 (a lot of SVNs, including 351 and 359). On 0.9.4 a lot of vmhack appears... and crash. On 0.9.5 just crash, nothing unusual on the log screen.

I already saw videos of people almost finishing the game, so I assume there is a workaround. Can someone help me please?

I'm with 46 hours already

ps1: my Dragon Quest 8 is USA [F4715852]
ps2: just in case i tryed gsdx from 0.1.0 to 0.1.7 (and zerogs as well). same vmhack messages on 0.9.4.... on 0.9.5 nothing changed: the emulator just crash.

i'm not sure, i play this games with no crash at all, the only problem i encounter are when
following the empyria shadow and the falling bugs

you have finalized it?

you have played with 0.9.4 only?

i havent finished yet because falling bug at the black citadel, yes i just use 0.9.4 because not encounter any problem except the shadow and falling bug
