I believe either it doesn't affect Geforce8 series cards in PCSX2 or they are just too powerful to handle the excessive load put on them anyways at least 8800GTX.

i think i may have found a fix

ok, i too was having trouble with this driver issue and then suddenly i think ive stumbled accross something,i always play in windowed mode anyway, i was playing guitar hero 2 and in the training mode i usually get about 55fps, however sometimes for no apparent reason it will drop down to 30fps, i used to restart pcsx2 enough times until my normal frame rate came back, however today i realised that if i press the mouse on an area of the desktop that is not the pcsx2 window then my fps is increased, if i click on the pcsx2 window then my fps plummets, i other words if the pcsx2 emulation window is selected the fps is low, if its deselected then its high this must be in fact what window mode to full screen mode is achieving a deselection of the emulation box, hope this is of benefit to some ppl.

Edit: actually this doesnt seem to work all of the time only sometimes

well actually GF8 series except 8800 is pretty weak 8400 have 16 pipes 8600 32 and slower compared to ATI 16xx series, very big slowdown with AA turned on.. only GF8 memory speed can give perfomance boost.

ForceWare 163.44 driver WinXP/2K & Win Vista x86, WinXP/2K3 & Vista x64

Hmm, has any1 else tried the latest beta, 163.44 forceware drivers?

Because with these it seems to run normal for me, whatever that's due to I've got an Intel rig now or if it's cuz of the driver version I don't know but since people with Intel setups also have reported the issue I would appriciate if some1 else that knows he/she has this bug explained in this thread and see if the FPS is normal now, thanks.

KH1 intro ran now like 200 FPS from start so it seems normal, tho I never tried v94.20 in KH1 intro with this Intel upgrade but I used to get like 110 - 115 fps with my amd rig so it seems my fps indeed is where it should be. Perhaps the alt+tab 8800 series bug have been fixed with this driver too?

Well perhaps I give 162.18 or some other driver I know has this issue a try and see if it runs slower for me now or not, then I will know for sure.

EDIT: What I thought! Installing driver 162.18 for example made me get the horribly slow FPS rate of 35-40 FPS during KH1 intro video (same as with my AMD setup with the infected drivers), so it does seem this issue is fixed in v163.44! Now I just have to revert back to v163.44 once more to see if it still provides 200 FPS in this intro.

EDIT2: Yes now I reverted back to v163.44 and FPS is still the same and I also benchmarked with fraps both XTreme-G tweaked 94.20 and 163.44 for 30 secs from the intro video to make sure there isn't any noticable difference between the pre infected drivers and the first driver with this issue fixed and results were:

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
5662, 30000, 181, 202, 188.733

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
5617, 30000, 181, 201, 187.233

Practically the same as results varies depending on exactly when I start the benchmark. So yea, I highly recommend Geforce 6, 7 and 8 series users to try out this driver, it seems also great for the PC games I've tried so far incl BioShock demo.

Link to the drivers:

163.44 Windows XP/2000 32-bit

163.44 Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition/Windows XP Professional x64 Edition

163.44 Windows Vista 32-bit

163.44 Windows Vista 64-bit

EDIT: Tweaked INF XTreme-G 163.44 mobile drivers available at:

I have the same system as you RPGW1ZaRD (Asus P5k Deluxe MB though) and I can confirm that 163.44 gives better performance over anything else post 94.20 . And is on par with anything from earlier.

Yup I'm glad this issue is finally fixed. I wonder if the alt+tab bug for 8800 series users (especially 8800GTS 320MB) didn't also get fixed at same time, that would be great as well.

Despite not being an XTreme-G tweaked driver which I usually use it performs well. Now I just have to wait for the XG version of this one too.

Hopefully drivers starting from this one will have normal FPS from now on again but I will be sure to check out with KH1 any time I update my NVIDIA drivers from now on and report back here if I experience anything weird!

You might be able to mod the latest beta drivers (the ones for bioshock) so that your card is included. There are guides for this on the internet or ask at guru3d.com and they will help you out.

The GF 8600 series are not weak, most of my pc games runs at fullspeed, like, UBERSOLDIER,DOOM3, INFERNAL,QUAKE4, even S.T.A.LK.ER, if i run them at high grafics quality. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. runs a bit slow in maximum grafics, however it is run fine if i set it to high or even medium grafics quality. I know that the 8600 series are not so powerful but they are good for most games.

So, you want to replace it in a year already? because of that crappy 128bit memory interface its a serious performance hog.

there is a known problem with Geforce cards due to inefficient texture management.

the management portion that handles Texture Eviction is not functioning, normal games are also getting these issues.

im using 92.91 myself since any newer had way to many issues to bother with (all of which were caused by the broken clockrates and overclocking panel...)

anyhow. the problem is that Textures fill up the vram and spill of into the system apperture which is MUCH slower then the vram, and the only way to fix this is to either force a buffer flush by either Alt-tabbing to the desktop, or Alt-entering to reenlarge the screen

this problem effects
Geforce 6
Geforce 7
Geforce 8

there are also problems with the way Geforce 8 cards report to games, as where a game expects and attempts to cache to a 1gb card, it instead caches 768mb to the card and 256mb to system memory..... again, a fix is expected soon.

Or you can check a few posts above, 163.44 beta driver has this issue fixed. So hopefully it's gone from now on.

this is actually wrong, the .sys file is the System driver that communicates between the Hardware and windows, the dll is an extension of the sys file allowing other applications (including the CP) to access this system driver.

the majority of bsods occur in the nv4_mini.sys rather then the nv4_disp.dll for this reason.

by replacing the sys file, you are running the risk of having dll files installed that require references to portions of the driver that do not exist in older files.

IF, you are having issues using newer drivers, then it is always advised to remain with the working older drivers, and if you require it, you can import profiles from the newer driver into the system by running expand.exe on the nvapps.xml file.

OK well can get to the point, this is no longer an issue, 163.44 driver doesn't have this issue anymore. (just making sure you didn't miss that part)

well, i haven't read anyones reports on this beta driver, as most of the people that use beta drivers are idiots and uninstall it the moment 3dmark loses 10 points. lol.

i'll notify the people effected with your findings.
