Quality of Sound

hi, i have kind of a problem with the sound in Tales of the Abyss

i use peops spu2 1.9

reverb: none
(SPU2 is a bit worse)
interpolation: Cubic interpolation
(surely best choice)

thead mode is deactivated if i activate it the sound makes kind of playbacks, i hear the same part twice etc.

thats the best sound i managed to configure, the problem here is that there is a loud noise in the background which is rather nerve-wracking

with zerospu 0.4.4 or gigahertz spu alpha 0.13.0 i also get those playbacks but their is no noise

i already looked in some threads here but there wasn't anything which really helped to solve it

fps: 50-70

thanks for helps

just use zerospu2 with timestretch enabled. there might be the occasional bit of noise mind, but apparently this is solved by putting the pcsx2 priority to "low"

thanks it works very well now, seems like the priority was the problem why it didn't work the first time i tried zerospu2

thanks

How exactly does the priority of the emulator affects the sound quality?

Doesn`t make much sense to me either. I`d have thought having the emulator on a higher priority setting would be more beneficial than a lower one.

The emulator is fighting with the sound drivers for CPU time?

The problem with high priority is PCSX2 wants 100% CPU time. That forces out anything else that might want just a very small amount of CPU time for anything else, even if it's something required by PCSX2.

Edit: In my opinion, it's generally best to set applications that want 100% CPU time to a lower priority to make everything happy. If this significantly reduces the performance of that application, then you're better off figuring out why and closing anything you don't want to steal CPU time.

As far as sound quality goes, Peops SPU2 is the best. I'm not talking about performance, though Peops does perform very well. Peops lets you configure the interpolation quality, giving you the best sound quality. Just compare 2 fully fluent scenes with both plugins (ZeroSPU2) and you'll see... check the Tekken 5 menu for example.

Again, I'm not talking about stuttering that happens when the game is not running at 100%. But when it does work at 50/50 or 60/60, Peops is the one rendering the best sound.

I tried setting the priority to low in the menu and from the windows processes window and I still get sound crackles.

I can run the game at a constant ~60FPS but the problem is that the sound will severly crackle at random points.

Does anyone have any other fix suggestions?

I was testing dragon quest 8 and was having serious sound problems executing in window mode.. When I changed to 1024x768 display mode, all the voices glitches disappeared.. Dunno why, but now works perfect.. Hope it helps

Sound problems may be random, sometimes when you start the game it will be more glitchy and restarting it might be fine again. But if you really want better sound you should compile the latest svn of it from sourceforge which sounds perfect for me except with very low fps then of course.
