requirements/settings for shadows of the colossus
My sys . quad 6600@3.2ghz (400x8), 8800gt @ 700mhz core, 3gb ram at 800 4-4-4-10...
it runs FFXII perfect. i get over 60 frames most of the time but set a limiter to 60 to keep the sound in sync. i tried running shadows of the colossus the other day and the performance is sloww. it plays at about 25-30 fps. i ripped the iso using Imgburn at 4x to make sure the rip is good. i own the game for anyone who cares. im using the latest version of gdsx. settings are sse3 . shader 3.0 on direct x 9(windows XP). tried using it at native resolution to get better performance, its the same as 12x by 10xx so i think its a settings problem instead of a cpu/gpu power problem. im using all the performance options on CPU menu anyone get SOTC to run smooth one a similar or weaker rig? The game is very advanced, just look at its presentation.
I'm sure it uses every possible tweak the ps2 has to offer and all that needs to be emulated. No wonder its still buggy on pcsx2 ![]() I get around 30-40fps in it so you'd need a theoretical 5-6ghz core2duo for fullspeed. |

i get fullspeed with speedhacks (my own customized build, not official) at 2.6ghz, but that game is unstable and buggy as hell, even without speedhacks.

My system: Quad 6600@ stock speeds, 8800GTS 320mb, 2GB RAM
I get decent speeds (35-40fps) with speedhacks in SVN 369 + GSDX1.8 SVN. It's a little sluggish but speeds are fully playable imo. Definitely MUCH faster than Bully. And it's 100% stable with zero bugs that I can tell, minus a few flashing textures. Anyhow I just killed my first colossus with no issues whatsoever. And *if* the rest of the game is equally playable, I'd say this game is def. playable now on a PC. Edit: I hope I didn't break any rules by mentioning SVNs, if so feel free to delete my post. |

i can play it with good fps too (50fps (capped) with some drops to 40-35 sometimes) but i'm hating the flashing textures on the main character...do you have em too?

I'm running "Shadow of the Colossus" around 50fps as well... it runs very nice. I see occasional drops to 35-40fps, but the performance doesn't slow down noticeably. I DON'T have any flashing textures on my main character. I had a flickering bar at the bottom 1/8th of my screen but fixed it by enabling "Progressive Scan" in the in-game options. I'm on my 4th colossus and the only issues I have are that the shadows cast by the main character are a bit distorted (Not a major deal breaker).
I don't know why your character's textures are flashing. Sounds like an issue with your PCSX2 settings? I'm using: PCSX2 .9.5 SVN 369 + EE/IOP Sync Hack, GSDX10 v1.8 SVN 759 I'm running a Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz, 2GB DDR2-800, nVidia 8800GTS 320mb, Vista Ultimate 32-Bit Last edited by Ashok; May 20th, 2008 at 03:50. |

SoftC has gotten some nice graphics improvements as well as speed, but it is still too slow imo to be playable.
When the player is in the scene, fps go down to 30-40, and worse if the horse is also in there. Still ten times better than it was a couple of weeks ago.

Check my sig for specs, but I get somewhat decent speeds (40-50 FPS dropping occasionally to 25 or so) throughout the game. It's definitely playable, but you have to be a bit patient with it.

Everyone can compile the latest SVN and use it.
SourceForge.net Repository - [pcsx2] Index of / SourceForge.net Repository - [guliverkli] Index of /trunk/gsdx Grab the last source code here and compile it. But.. 1) betas are not supported. 2) You can't ask for SVN's here. Compile it by yourself.

why dont you guys try to set the video output to progressive scan mode (ingame options), it might reduce the flashing thing and try to bump the int res to 800x800 upwards to reduce over brightness, also use the denormals are zero mod (since its not a speedhack yet, you gotta make a different build with it enabled) and the first two speed hacks for speedboost

Hmmz... for people who have flashing issues in SotC, are you using the latest SVNs? I've been using the latest SVNs and I'm not seeing any flashing texture problems in the game. Also, like toyopsp said, running the game with Progressive Scan is a must.

Also, quick disclaimer: this isn't SVN discussion, it's SotC discussion. We're not offering or discussing support of SVN, just merely mentioning it in a very deep, very not-SVN centered thread.

EDIT2: great no more flashing with svn373!!!interlacing making things brighter (ore more bright?)...i like it!but causing black zones in the low part of the screen....so i won t use it.. now i only have bad shadows.....u have them too? shadows problem:

nexxuno,
You need to run "Shadow of the Colossus" with Progressive Scan enabled (in-game settings). This will fix the black zone issue in the lower portion of the screen. The only remaining problem with the game is the bad shadows, which imo isn't a deal breaker. |
