what's the different things expected from tweaking vu skip?
also is vu skip just skipping frames to get normal speed then i think it's better to add option to select the frame to skip |

Because people ran out of things to say?
One of the types of frame skipping I quite like is the one dosbox uses, though it doesn`t refer to fps, it more refers to cpu cycles. Anyways the way dosbox does it, is auto detects the best cpu cycles to run the game at, based on the users computer and the game itself. Ofcourse this doesn`t always work, but a fair few games run excellently via this method. And if the game doesn`t run quite well, or you want it to run faster then you can increment and deincrement the cpu cycles via hot keys on the keyboard to make the game run faster or slower. Quite a nifty feature. Obviously though, dosbox is a emulator for the old dos 6.0 from long ago, and pcsx2 is a ps2 emulator, so entirely different. But be nice to have a similar kindof frame skipping.

I tested around 10 games and the only one that got a speedup - from 40 to around 60 fps - was Fight Night Round 3 (Q9450 3,4 ghz cpu). A side effect was that some of the cutscenes were black and I had to push buttons to skip them.
Every other game I tried did not benefit from VU skip or crashed when it was on. Maybe other users could give other examples. |
