no, P4's are not suitable for playable speed,
you can try FFX, i say it will run with 15-40, average 25-30. fullspeed only in few situations.

Disgaea, it'll be enough. For anything else, be prepared for some major slow motion play.

Pentium D also sucks for PS2 Emulation.
Get a decent CPU like a Athlon 64 X2 6400+ or Core2Duo E6750. i prefer a E8400, not so expensive nowadays.

400$ is enough for a good mainboard and CPU, but your graphic card is AGP right?

Core 2 Duo E7200. Definitely. $60 cheaper than E8400, and offers about the same kind of performance. You can either save the $60, or plan it towards a good motherboard to overclock the chip to 3.8GHz or above (quite easily).

Don't buy a PC to play PCSX2. If you *really* need a new computer then spend the money, but playing games on your PS2 console is *much* cheaper. If you buy a computer next year you'll get twice the power for the same price and PCSX2 will play even better...

you must have a ps2 to legally use pcsx2 so comparing the price of a ps2 with a high end pc (but no ps2) is pointless ..............either way you must have a ps2 to play ps2 games

well unless you want to spend alot of money, laptops generally arn't powerful enough to run PCSX2 at good speeds. its cheaper to buy a powerful desktop that can play PCSX2 than it is to buy a laptop. if you do buy a desktop, then i recommend going with an Intel processor since the OC better.

Which is my point exactly. If you have both a PS2 and a decent computer, why spend hundreds/thousands to buy a new computer to do what the PS2 already does for you, *especially* when a new computer isn't going to play all your games.
Most people don't seem to realize that even today's computers will likely never run all ps2 games at full speed. If you hold back that urge to upgrade now, and save your money until we see hardware that can handle PCSX2 then you'll be able to afford it before those fools that bought too early for no reason. As I said though, if he has a separate reason to upgrade (he can't play new PC games for example), then it makes sense. Just don't do it for PCSX2 alone. |

you need to stop spewing that crap....tests have shown the e8400 gets about 30fps or more on games...30fps for pcsx2 can make or break you. the e7200 is crap and and its cheap for a reason.

So, who here thinks this should continue in the hardware section, since this has just turned into a tech argument with no relevence to PCSX2?
Long story short, his computer is balls and he needs a new one if he wants to use PCSX2. Stop with the whole "don't buy a comp just for PCSX2" arguments. No one cares. Let the man get a comp. It doesn't hurt you, and obviously it doesn't hurt the community because we get yet another PCSX2 user.
