Would it not be easier if this kinda of functionality was built into pcsx2 and its plugins itself. Basically some kinda of auto stats generator with current hardware, game, various plugin and cpu stats etc to aid the pcsx2 team and possibly update the compatibility thread?

guys don't you think we're helping the n00bs enough.

we have like 3 guides, 1 game specific guide, a screen-shots thread w/ current specs, a compatibility list, the bug-reporter, and now this :O

i rather the PCSX2 team focus on getting games to work, if n00bs still need more help then they're pretty much a lost-cause...

More like 30 actually ;p The issue is that even slight hardware differences not easily comparable with traditional PC benchmarking method do matter.

The bug reporter could be more effective if the regular pcsx2 came with a benchmarker (with maybe one or two technical demos), so the combination of both could be optimally useful.

Some changes have been made to the GameStats.xls file. The file now has proper Intel and AMD model nomenclature with some fixes. It should be more useful now.

See GameStats - Nomenclature.

woah,
what the...

GeominorAI, do you really have the time to fill something like this out?
this project seems alittle unfeasible.

I think it's great that GeominorAI decided to contribute to the community like that, and I think that his guide will be useful. Thank you!

Entering the data from the Screenshots Thread was the most time consuming since it was done manually.

However, the approach for the data graphing and analysis would be somewhat formula-based. Using these rankings, which would first be refined and corrected (please point out any errors or give suggestions), the data from GameStats - Nomenclature.xls would be selectively entered (perhaps a neat macro script could help), and have the adjacent data be filled in with a logistic equation (partly from differential equations and all that fun stuff). That would eventually assist in an accurate prediction (the more entries, the higher the accuracy) of expected peak (or average) FPS ranging over a variety of specifications.

Nonetheless, finding the right equation and constants might take a while; it could take up to a week.

It would be very time consuming. If you've got the time that would be great. But if anyone knows how to make a program like 3dmark. No not that much complexity but a program that uses all the cpu's power, both cores,(how many equations can the computer solve) and tests the graphics with like a cube revolving (number of frames). I would do it but I don't know how to implement both cores in VB6 or REALbasic.

That would have to be running through PCSX2 to give proper results. However, considering that proper testing requires running raw data through all parts of the emulator, the benchmark file would be huge for each test. If there are multiple game trial emulations, that would be quite unfeasible.

The GSdx replay feature slightly offers some benchmarking possibilities, but it does not completely reflect the performance outside of the GS. The GSdx replay files in themselves are already huge, but consider the file size for all other components in total. (Not to mention that might be on the brink of some legal issues.)

Would the 9800 GTX go above or below the 8800 Ultra?

Above, unless you start going with really high resolutions then the ultra & gtx's larger memory bandwidth will give it the edge. At 1920x1200 and lower the 9800GTX should pull ahead with architecture improvements and faster memory and core clocks.

Game-Specific STATS Article

Final Fantasy X

Thesis
Final Fantasy X is one of the few 3D games that can run at least 30 FPS on a mid-range system, and full-speed on high-end systems.

Procedure
The twelve samples for Final Fantasy X, including the international version, from the GameStats - Nomenclature.xls file have been used to calculate a logistic-style curve with the limit at 60 FPS. The logistic curves were fitted manually based on the CPU and GPU ranking by the (game-specific) formula:

See the CPU and GPU ranking references for comparison.

Data and Analysis
The twelve samples indicated that the logistic curve is smooth and does not drop significantly from each ranking.
The title is CPU dependent for the most part with GPU power coming second in the line of importance.

As indicated in the graph, the smooth curve indicates a generally acceptable performance peak that is comfortable to most users with systems mid-ranged to high.

Conclusion
Final Fantasy X, analyzed with data from 0.9.4 to 0.9.5.354, shows a smooth performance curve indicating that is not a very specification-demanding 3D game.
See the compiled Final Fantasy X: Specification to FPS Excel spreadsheet.

Notes
How did this go? Please give advices and match the Excel with your specifications and post any major differences in the predicted results. The CPU list is overdone with too many non-essential entries that could be tuned down a bit. Does anyone have any suggestions, feedback, or optimizations in mind?

Nc. You even got an equation for this. Hope you keep this up.

I am one of the few who don't own one of the most popular games for PS2. So no confirmation on Final Fantasy equation accuracy.

You mean E4300?
