this should probably go in HW discussion, but does the dominator series make that much diff compared to good OCZ or other Corsair RAM (pc2-6400?)
well it overclocks insanely and the heatspreaders are just awesome

OCZ's 6400 Titanium series is pretty damn good as well. And if you've got a watercooled system, check out their Flex series.../drool!

Now that I think about it, I still have to mail in the $30rebate for my RAM.../goes off to buy some stamps and envelopes.

I got my RAM here...

Canada Computers - Your Neighbourhood Computer Store and Service Centre - PC Systems and Hardware Components, Notebooks, Electronics, and more.

OCZ 2x1024MB PC6400 rev2 4-4-4 $250 - $25 rebate = $225 CDN

I was tempted to get 1GB again to save money, but with the rebate I went for 2GB

Good tweak for people with a bit older gfx cards or let's say people with a nice CPU such as Conroe paired with a weak 7600GS/GT (in relative to the CPU such gfx card is WEAK, everything's relative). Nice finding.

Tested with RE4, works and the game ran on avg with full speed now hehe.

Just wanna clarify:

- Has more impact on the ZeroGS plugin.

- The speed increase from this tweak varies from game to game, best noticed in gfx heavy games such as Resident Evil 4. Altho every1 should be able to notice a difference at least in some games when comparing AA4x + BF enabled vs disabled when running both in 256 colors mode and normal mode.

- The speedboost is bigger or easier to see when you've got a strong CPU paired with a weak GFX card. Having a powerful gfx card and a weak CPU on the other hand, won't show any difference as the GFX card might already be powerful enough and CPU is the limiting factor so changes that impacts on GFX card performance won't be noticed since CPU is already limiting the speed.

Add this game toward heavy graphic when BF and AA 4x kick in..

- FFXII is one of those games that people are gaining some fps.

OK here is a quick comparision from RE4:

256 colors, AA off, BF off vs normal, AA off, BF off - ~30% speedboost! (would be more in case my CPU wouldn't become the limiting factor)

256 colors, AA2x, BF off
vs normal, AA2x, BF off - 80% speedboost!!!

256 colors, AA off, BF on vs normal, AA off, BF on - ~42% speedboost!

256 colors, AA4x, BF off vs normal, aa4x, BF off - ~86% speedboost!!!

256 colors, AA4x, BF on vs normal, AA4x, BF on - ~47% speedboost!

WOW This 256 colors mode sure is wonderful for AA2x and AA4x mode.

@RPGW1ZaRD

this "tweak" have nothing to do with the colors - it just disable alpha blending - that's all...

By setting PCSX2 to 256 colour mode, you are not altering PCSX2's colour depth etc, nor does 16bit / 32bit have any impact, you are simply disabling certain aspects of zeroGS.
