no noticeable speed increase with this hack on my rig, however IQ seems lower imho - i for one think the "blurry softness" looks gay :P

I wouldn't expect that you would really notice a difference Totenkopf, you are using one of the fastest graphics cards that is being sold today. A bunch of benchmarks/game runs for the GF8800 show it as being CPU limited in many cases(using modern PC games). You might see a speed increase using this if your rig ever becomes GPU limited.

I think what you are calling "blurry softness" looks better than "jagged pixelyness". You can see what I am talking about in the attached screenshots from my post here.

I tried it on my old system as well (athlon 64 2Ghz @ 2.4, 1gb ddr @ 480 2-7-6-10-1t, geforce 6800 non-ultra), which ran ffx at half-speed mostly, and it didn't show any improvement either...still looked kinda fruity though

Totenkopf : Well, it's because in your old system, you're still limited by the processor, and not the video card......

off topic as well: thanks, nice laptop

on topic (sort of) : strider - good point! although, i don't really agree on the point that on my current system i'm cpu-limited - it depends a lot on the graphical content, since overclocking the (already factory overclocked :P) video card shows more of an improvement in 3d mark than overclocking the cpu - the current 3dmark 06 record holder (k|ngp|n from xtremesystems) got almost 24k points (almost twice my score) with 2 of the same evga 8800 i have in sli and the same evga mb (although truth be told he used quad-core on custom ln2 )

Offtopic:The dominator series is pretty hard to find. I scoure'd Ebay and a buncha other sites with decent, reasonable prices and that didn't charge and arm and leg to ship to where I live. I just gave up and decided to buy some decent OCZ RAM. Heck, even looking for D9 RAM modules was impossible, though I'd trade my RAM for a 1Gb anyday . Used the money saved to buy enough comp maintenance supplies to last me a year .

you can find dominator's at most enthusiast hardware companies in Bucharest, i had the whole system custom-built by /// pc-coolers.ro (they've built my old system as well and they're one of the few companies over here that offer warranty on overclocked systems). if you're interested in buying dominator's though, i strongly advise you not to buy the "high-end" ones that are supposed to run at 2.4v stock, as i've seen lots of posts on evga's forum about them frying in 30-60 days without any overvolting...

as for the vista question, i couldn't honestly tell you, since i haven't installed it yet - i'm waiting for more mature drivers and more than just supreme commander (which is the only game i've seen so far that has dx10 support) to come out

edit: skoreanime - the 2gb 6400c4d dominator's i have are about 285 eur incl. VAT over here, which i honestly find dirt cheap, but that doesn't include transportation

Holy bajebus, the EUR dominates the CDN. I'd have to pay $437.96 before taxes and shipping rofl! I paid $280 for mine. Seeing that just made me even more content .

Topic:Tried this on my laptop, boosted it to almost 50fps in FFX! Didn't do much on my desktop though, no noticeable difference. Then again, my current GPU is sub-par .

sob... my normal OEM place where I like to buy hardware from charges 360 CDN! that's a lot compared to 200 usd...
this should probably go in HW discussion, but does the dominator series make that much diff compared to good OCZ or other Corsair RAM (pc2-6400?)
