Does it use up more CPU power when I do this? My computer kinda sucks, but the worst part of it is my old old old old athlon processor. And when I turned this on, I got a huge increase in performance in menus, but in game it got worse.

Actually if you knew how this thing worked, it's just like disabling a graphics options that isn't really configurable in the plugin itself. It's not a hack or anything that could give any speed increase or suddenly support a new feature or anything.

I used this feature with epsxe when I had a P4 1.4. I did play FFXII with this 256 colours in some areas or enemies, but I don't like it, well it is nice when you get a low fps or have a low spec PC.

Jerrett :

Because it fools ZeroGS into thinking that alpha blending is not supported by the video card, so ZeroGS disables it hence the faster speed. It doesn't really run on 256 colors.

The size effect is that certain effects will be missing or be showing graphic problems.

My question has nothing to do with how this thing works or this thing at all for that matter. Are you sure you read the first sentence of my post? I'm just pokin around the bush a bit. here it is agean.

"This seems like a thread to post unconventional ideas for speed increases. I was just wandering Theoretically if it is possible for video cards with secondary gpu's to be emulated in crossfire, sli or maybe even some kinda crazy HT or DC? If not possible Pcsx2 could it be done in with separate program?"

I don't know if this is even possible and I'm not asking if it could be an option in pcsx2. Again Theoretically could it be done? I know this is kinda off topic but the people in in in this forum seem to know a lot about programing so I figured I'd ask.

Search before you post and dont post off-topic...
A quick search gave me this thread where even the devs say what they think
http://forums.ngemu.com/pcsx2-offici...pport-sli.html
You could spare some seconds from your time to find that instead of posting off-topic in another thread.

Only the AMD consumer Dual Core CPUs are branded as 'X2' and I think you mean 'interleaved' as opposed to interlaced.

or he means to use 'x' as 'times' meaning times 2 cpu... with one off-topic post comes more...

back ON topic, has anybody tried using AA/BF with this mode and compared without? I am at school now and can't test it out, but I'd be curious to know if when you go 256 mode and then enable AA, does it look better or worse??

Yep, I did, what the "trick" does for me is enable 4X in most games without any speed/FPS decrease. Before, even enabling 2X AA in games causes slowdown immediately.

As for quality, in all of the games I tested, I didn't see any quality decrease when using 4X AA using the "trick" .

Well, I just did a quick image quality check in KH in a different scene than the waterfall scene (where I only compared BF/4xAA with 256 on and with 256 off). Here is what the Wonderland scene looks like. This isn't a spot where having it enabled helped FPS. The first picture is with 256 enabled and BF/4xAA. The second picture is with 256 disabled and BF/4xAA enabled. The third has 256 disabled and BF/AA disabled. The last has 256 enabled and BF/AA disabled. I'll let you decide which one looks the best.

For reference, I am using an ATI(AMD) video card.

Using the 256 color trick blurs out the hole image a bit. Normally when playing PC games I'd hate that, but here in PS2 emulation it lets you forget about the low res textures and pixelation a bit, especially because "real" AA is not possible atm. As long as there are no textures or effects missing, I'll use this.

It would be great if this effect could be selected seperatly from turning off alpha blending support in a future version of PCSX2.
