Well this is freaking stupid. I can't even do this for free?

So let me get this staight, I can't flash and download my bios (from PS2) without somehow modding my PS2?

And now I have to buy this stupid swap disk? If this isn't a "free" method, then it's pointless.

Exclamation

Hi! You know, my PS2 lately has had some problems at reading disks, I don't know what the heck it's wrong with it... Mine is the Slim, what I wanted to ask is: does this problem mess with the dumping?

The same thing is happening to me...It seems to burn just fine, but when I put it in the Playstation, it doesn't do anything but go to that menu...and when I go to Browser, it either says "Disc read error." or goes to a red screen saying "Please insert a Playstation 2 formatted disc."

Ive heard that theres a way to swap discs without modding or using a swap disc. Look for it on youtube and give it a shot: playstation 2 swap trick.

Youre welcome, but i tried it and it didnt work for me i had to buy Swap Magic 3.6 -_-
If anyone else needs a way to get the CD to work on PLaystation 2, swap magic is about 30-40 dollars. If you have a fat PLaystation 2 consider yourself lucky, all you need is a slide card, which you can make yourself ( i made mine, i used a wal mart gift card)
If you have a slim youll need a flip top cover or something else.

Anyway if anyone needs swap magic:

How to make slide card for swap magic/fat playstation 2:

DUMPING YOUR BIOS THROUGH USB

Step 3: USB Mass Storage Device
Your Flash Drive should :
  • Have atleast +8MB Storage Space
  • Be Formatted into FAT/32
  • Been allocated the Maximum Space Available. i.e, Have No partitions

Note: This is an Important Step, Scroll Down to mass:/ and Select O.

When You selected the mass:/ directory, it should go in to the device and should be able to be explored as in the following Screenshot. If you are not able to do so, you must check whether it has been formatted to FAT/32. If it is try changing the Flash Drive into the second USB hole.

Now press X and go back. Browse to cdfs:/. This is the Directory of the Inserted disc. Inside the CDFS Directory you should have, DUMPBIOS-MASS.ELF. Select It and Press O

Once You Have pressed O. You would have come to the Second Screen But slightly different Which you would notice. The DUMPBIOS-MASS.ELF would be selected in the Default Boot

Now Press up twice, or a lot more times down and at the OK function press O. Now you should come up with this screen

All you gotta do now is wait for 10 seconds and If you did it correctly Your Bios would be Dumped.

I have swap magic for japanese playstation 2 and the BIOS dumping CD. Cd seems to be working fine on PS2, but when i go into mass directory it freezes every time. I have a 1 GB USB storage device empty(no data on it), bought brand new for this purpose (BIOS dumping), and i formatted it to fat 32 with the highest allocation i COULD on my computer. Ive allocated it both to default and to the largest i could : 8192.

Every time the program needs to access my USB device the program freezes: this would be in both the mass process and the cdfs process. Though interestingly it doesnt say that the dump failed like it does when no USB device is inserted. It just stays where it is for hours.

What am i doing wrong? DO i need a different storage device? Is it not working because USB device is being formatted on a US computer rather than Japanese computer?

Does anyone have a screenshot of what i should see when the dump is successful?

I have recorded my DUMP attemmpts ill try to host them on youtube or something.

If you don't have a soft or hard mod PS2

You must use the swap tool to insert the dump bios CD

My case is using HDadvance to boot up dump bios program

And it is work!

Yeah i bought Swap Magic because the "swap trick" didnt work for me. Swap magic is getting the program to run but it keeps freezing whenever it needs to access my USB storage device. Thats the problem now.

The video is finished.

YouTube - BIOS Dumping issues

That video will show you exactly whats happening when i try to use the program.
If anyone can help me get it to work id greatly appreciate it.

vicepang i did format to FAT 32. Maybe im doing something wrong there.
Maybe you could help me by telling me exactly what you did to format your USB device?

If you have a screen recorder could you make a video of it? Im thinking i might be making some small mistake somewhere thats ruining everything.
