Will the emulator run fast on my computer?

If you have come here to ask this question, the answer is here, there is no point in making a thread about it. Look down the list for your hardware, you will get a fair idea of your system and how it will perform, if there are any additional hardware reply below with the additions, DO NOT reply if you are just going to ask "Will my system work? i have blah blah" because all you will get is a warning.

Will my game work?

If you have reasonable specs to those posted below but want to know if your game works, check out the Compatability List before posting.

Processors:

Won't work or barely do anything:

Intel Pentium
Intel Pentium II
AMD Athlon (non-XP)
AMD Thunderbird
AMD Duron

Will work, but very slowly, possible problems:

Intel Pentium III
Intel Celeron (any P3 and above series)
AMD Athlon XP
AMD Sempron
AMD Turion

Will work without compatibility problems, but will run slowly:

Intel Pentium IV (4)
Intel Pentium D - Probably works best in this group
Intel Pentium M (Dothan)
AMD Athlon 64 Single Core
AMD Opteron Single Core
AMD Athlon FX Single Core

Will work at a reasonably playable speed (this does not mean full speed):

Intel Core 2 Duo (and laptop Core Duo equivalent)
Intel Core 2 Quad
AMD Athlon X2 (and Turion laptop equivalent)
AMD Opteron Dual Core
AMD Athlon FX Dual Core

Laptop Processors:

We do not recommend the use of any laptop machines on the emulator unless otherwise mentioned above, if it supports SSE2 then it may work. if it does not have SSE2 then it is likely it will be extremely slow and have emulator compatibility problems.

Graphics Cards:

Won't work (or very unlikely to) - Maybe possible with GSDX9 Software Mode (V. Slow):

Geforce 3 or below
Geforce 4 MX series - confirmed to be working but very slowly
ATi Radeon 8xxx series and below
ATi Radeon 9100
Most onboard graphics cards (excluding the Geforce 61X0 series and 5200 Go)

Will work but require GSDX9 - Very poor performance:

Radeon 9200 - Reported to work with ZeroGS too!
Radeon 9250
Intel GMA950 - confirmed to work
Geforce 4

Will work on both graphics plugins, but possibly poor performance:

Radeon 9500 to 9800 series
Radeon X300 to X8x0 series
Geforce 5200 (Go included) to 6500 series (also including
Geforce 61x0 onboard series)
Geforce 7100 - need confirmation

Will work at a reasonable to very good level of speed with both plugins:

Geforce 6600 series and above (excluding above mentioned)
ATi Radeon X1300 series and above - need confirmation for X1300

Other Hardware Recommendations:

512mb of above of System Memory
Windows XP With Service Pack 2 - Note: Some versions of XP may not work with the VM build (Brazilian known not to work, see update below)
Windows 2000 - Requires the TLB build (pcsx2t.exe)
Windows XP 64 With Service Pack 1 - confirmed to be working
Windows Vista 32/64 - Works on both builds, for VM to work, you MUST manually enable SE_LOCK_MEMORY (Confirmed by GeneralPlot)

And that's it! Nothing else is very important when it comes to system requirements, i hope that just cuts down the number of "Will it work" threads!

If you would like a more in depth look into what speed processors are best and what you can expect from your speed, check out this thread
http://forums.ngemu.com/pcsx2-offici...-good-fps.html

You may also find some Final Fantasy speed reviews amongst others with a small number of different system specs in these 2 threads

combination of:

AMD Athlon XP 1800+ and Geforce 3 TI200 (64 megs, his graphic master 3) and 512 MB RAM, OS WinXP Home - doesn't work (pcsx2 0.9.1 and 0.9.2 tested)

no picture with zerogs (0.95.2 and 0.96.0) gsdx9 crashes (unknown error)

edit:

in software mode gsdx9 do not crash but i doesn't see any picture - just a black screen (pixel shader 1.1)

tried kh 1, ffx, kh 2 and resident evil 4

can you confirm if it works with software mode on GSDX9?

I have an ATI radeon 9000IGP in my laptop, and it works decently with GSDX9. It doesn't do anything amazing, but I was able to get about 15-20fps on FFX, so an ati 9100 and 9200 should at least be able to work as well I'd imagine... I used Pixel Shader 1.4 also, and didn't see much difference between that and software mode in terms of speed.

you got 20fps out of software mode? anyhow they are in the "possibly work with software mode" section, so its about right, gsdx9 automatically uses the best mode available (at least it does with shaders) despite what you choose, which may explain the minimal difference

I get 45-55 fps in FFX with my laptop (see below). I would say if it has fast core duo or core 2 duo and a decent dedicated graphics card it should be ok (play at reasonable speeds).

I also had a Pentium M 760 @ 2Ghz (with ATI x300 mobile) that ran FFX at 15-20 fps; faster than P4 also.

I bet you could get nearly full FPS with an overclocked dell M1710 T7600G Core 2 duo notebook.
At any rate, if you can say that P4's can play without compatibility issues but slow, C2D mobiles can play at least reasonable. Anybody have a C2D with integrated?

That makes sense to me. Sometimes I got about 12.5fps or so, but at max I hit 20fps. I never really tried another game other than FFX, so other games probably barely crawl on my system... Hopefully I can get a nice system like dashboardy someday Until then, I probably won't be using PCSX2, but with a nicer system...I've seen it do amazing things.

It does? I know that ZeroGS automatically picks the best mode available but I don't think that GSDX9 does. I have noticed that FFX has more graphical issues when Pixel Shader 3.0/2.0 is selected compared to 1.4 (the sky in the intro only shows up properly with 1.4 on both my X1900gt as well as my old 6800).

yeh if you enable Pallate Textures in GSDX9, this fixes the problems, but its slower, so its much better to use Shader 1.4 in gsdx

I have a Asus Z96Js, like dashboardy's S96J, mine just has a better screen and bluetooth. I get around 50-60FPS in FFX with AA off and MTGS and Dual core mode enabled. I OC the mobile X1600 500core/420mem. It's pretty good, I imagine I can play 2d games at good FPS.

yes that pretty much comes under the core 2 duo comment, also the graphics card is in the top performance range, but thanks for confirming

I noticed AMD Turion listed under the "Will work, but very slowly, possible problems" section I was curious if this includes an AMD Turion X2 Dual Core processor even though its a notebook processor?

hmm, ok im going to rephrase how ive put things again ;p

there :P X2 accounts for both, they are essentially the same, the original Turion is more like the XP
