The 8x0 series are certainly a hot, crappy mess but the 9x0 (yonah) series were fine for their price when released. My friend's 930D/7600GT/1GB DDR2 533 ran rings around my 820D/7800GT/2GB DDR 667 in every single game.

The 9xx series are a great improvement to the NETBURST processors, and with a good video card (see later) can likely get playable games (possibly maxed in some games).
wasn't sure if you were referring to the initial post. Yonah is the code name of core duo mobile. The 9x0 series were preslers.

maybe check why it's running at 991 mhz (power options set to "always on" power scheme). AMD has 'coolnquiet' which slows the processor down, maybe disble it. what games are you running?

um, not sure why my first post didn't show, but anyways there is clearly something wrong with your setup. 991 mhz is not the speed of an athlon 4200+ x2. (2.2 ghz is what it should be running at). what is the model of your HP system (something like a1530n or same format)? have you installed the amd hotfixes? do you have all the updates for windows?

what is your graphics card (right click my computer, properties, hardware tab, device manager, display adapter...)

Hey all,

I had a question about the bottom of the PC Specs guide saying,

when you go into the pcsx2.exe and make it use 256 colors under compatibility it makes your game's speed go up a few fps.

Well in my case it did but it only worked with ZeroGS not Gsdx9, when i tried to start it with Gsdx9 it came up with an error saying it could not open the gsdx9 plugin. Have any of your experienced this problem too? Anyone came up with a solution?

Game Tested: Samurai Warriors 2
Specs:
GA-8I945GMF Motherboard
Intel Pentium IV Processor
XFX Geforce 7300 GS Graphics card
1 Gb dual DDR Ram

thnx in advance for any answers

dashboardy, great job on a very detailed and informative post. Mods please consider sticky it. Even if the intended audience won't read it, this post certainly deserves the recognition. Thanks.

First, thanks very much. I'm glad it has been somewhat useful. actually awhile back after I made this post refraction stickied his own guide that was a little less in depth than mine - more of a summary. It was unstickied it for some reason (probably too many stickies in this forum) - but my intent was to help people see that if they had a particular processor (3 GHz Pentium 4 is classic example) they wouldn't get good speeds, even though the PS2 is only 300 MHz. So they wouldn't ask questions regarding slow speeds on an Athlon XP.

Again, thanks for the comment.

surptise then =P

well, about the posts, yeah, it's not much of an emulation PC, but I do get a ~20fps on some games (even some 3D ones)...since my VGA card is modded, it's a bit more powerful, but still, the CPU is bad for the emu...
anyway, thanks for the replies, I pareciate it ^^ (BTW I heard people talking about speed hacks...do those exist?)

That only affects speed. The post made it seem like there are other problems as well.

You sure about that? I would think a PC worth less than a brand new PS3 would have problems.

And on the AGP front, that should last for a decent while yet, nowt wrong with my 7800. The P4 however... well let's not talk about that

That's not true! I'm sure he could get Nesticle running (with a bit of overclocking).

Seriously though, you should pick up AT LEAST an Athlon 64 X2 if you want to see decent speeds. I have a 3800+X2 with a Geforce 7900 GS (finally upgraded the video card) and I had no problem playing all the way through FFX.

See my above post. Your video card isn't what mine is (I run FFX PAL with no problems), but everything else is pretty much the same. Also, I upgraded from a Geforce 6150 (on board video), and I was seeing about 25-30 FPS with that. FFX should be playable for you (enable frame skip for full speed if you come up short). Kingdom Hearts should also be decent. Other than FFX, I'm not sure of the rest you listed. I remember trying one of my brother's DBZ games (can't recall which one), and it ran very slowly (about 10 FPS), but that was long before my video card upgrade, and I only had use of it while he was here, so I couldn't try it for you now. I was running it from the actual disc, so that may have slowed some parts down a bit as well.
