Ok. I am aiming to purchase a laptop for myself in the 800$ range in about three months. So far the average specs in that range where I live is something like this
OS: Window Vista Home prem (64-bit)
Processor: AMD Turion TL-62 (2.1ghz)
GPU: Nvidia geforce 7150 (1071MB shared video memory)
RAM: 4 gb RAM
Hopfully in three months It will be better than that, But worst that can happen is I can't enjoy PS2 on the go. Thanks for the quick reply

most laptops arn't powerful enough to run PCSX2 at good speeds.
only the really expensive ones can do it.

its best to get a Desktop PC if you really want to run PCSX2.

Okay, I don't know why, but the graphic plugin gsdx9 version I can enable is (MSVC 14.00, SSE2) 0.10.0...even though I downloaded GSdx 0.1.7 with D3DX9 v36, D3DX10 v36...

Unpack D3DX9 v36 and D3DX10 v36 to PCSX2 main directory <where .exes are>, and GSDX itself to plugins directory - that's all.

Gulp, I can't believe I messed up on this...must be all the different versions sitting on my desktop, and I'm extracting them one by one and dumping them in the plugins folder...@___@;; Apparently I thought I extracted the GSdx 0.1.7 file, but I didn't...DDD= *knocks head*

Sorry about the false alarm...I can see the option now!!! *phew*

Hey all. I've searched the forum and read the n00bs guide/BIOS dump guide but I couldn't find a definite answer to this, so hopefully I can get some help.

I'm hoping to try out PCSX2 (Yeah - I know my specs are a bit low for PCSX2, but I'm interested in having a go anyway, just for the giggles). Simple question - I have a European PS2, so if I dump the BIOS (which would be PAL), can that be used to play imported NTSC games? Main reason I want to use the emu is to play games released in the States that I never got to play over here, like Xenosaga I - I don't have a modded PS2 so I can only play PAL/Region 2 games on it.

As I say, I searched but got conflicting info (some posters say you can, others said it doesn't work so well) so hoping to get some clarification.

If I can't use the PAL BIOS there's no point in me downloading PSCX2.

Sorry if this has been answered before.

Thank yoooouuuu

For some games yes. Use different interlacing mode <F5 while ingame or by setting it in GSDX config> to reduce/remove shaking.

PCSX2 is region-free. So NTSC games will work with PAL bios.

Excellent.

Now I just have to get swap magic, and attempt to dump the BIOS - should be fun, lawl.

Thanks.

If you have a Swap magic, you could just play your NTSC games on your PS2...lol.

HAHAHA, sorry. I'm such a n00b.

I'd not actually heard of SM till I read the bios dump faq tbh, so I wasn't sure what it did exactly. Awesome, I'm off to raid ebay USA.

Thanks for the tip. I might have a go at dumping the BIOS anyway as my PS2 is pretty old now, so I can see it dying on me at some point.

EDIT: after more googling it seems that Xenosaga is dual layer, which won't work with swap magic (not without a load of faffing about, anyway). Looks like I'll be using the emulator.

This is not really the place for that query.

In any case, although the STATS analysis article is not out yet, based on eighteen entries, the P4 has an FPS range of 2 to 45 with an average of 20.6. That is not altogether a very impressive result.

The entry with the peak 45 FPS was from a non-graphic intensive game such as Metal Slug 5, however, the entry's P4 clock was at 3.0 GHz.

The root PCSX2 forum would be the place to ask, however, the responses would generally be what you saw above.

Your computer can run the emulator, but the performance will be very low. You would likely have to use the minimal of settings on the plugins.

it might "work", but all games would run slow.

if you actually want to play games, then consider upgrading to a better PC.

well actually, since you only have 256mb ram, it might not even work, as PCSX2 takes up about 200+mb.
