Newb haveing trouble with crashing

this is the first emulator with setup ive used, and i thought i had it done, but i repeatedly get "pcsx.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." at random times. sometimes at startup, other times ~3 minutes into the game, but never past that.

i am running XP.

plugins:
graphics: P.E.Op.S soft driver 1.17
sound:eternal SPU plugin 1.41
controller: Dr. Hell's WinMM PAD driver .3
CDrom: mooby2 cd disk image driver 2.8
i am using the default Bio
all the tests say everything is working.

anyone able to help?
