Eee PC with Project64
I guess... some of us are interested.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And... that'll be all. Overall, the game runs almost full speed. Should be full speed if you clock the CPU to its native 900MHz clock speed, and you should still be able to play the game for about 2 hours with 100% screen brightness on battery then. At this speed, the battery can survive an additional 30 minutes and the laptop itself will run quite cool (around 50C idle and 60C max load without a fan) so this is ideal for me. There are better battery packs out there, but I prefer stock, so this is it for me.

I said it before and I will say it again. That is one sweet little device.

You can run something other than the onboard video?
Anyway, yes, that's a vanilla Eee PC to you. The only modifications I have done ever since I got the thing are:- I trashed the fan. It was quite... loud with this weird buzzing noise. Won't be noticeable in a crowd, but will be noticeable when you are alone, and the laptop is like 1 foot away from you. Oh well, removing the fan didn't do much to the temps. Actually, it dropped temps because now there's more room for air! Talk about irony... - Updated BIOS to the latest and fixed a few issues as well as dropping temps even further (whooping 8C with idle temp). This is the first time I've ever felt like keeping something this much. ![]() Edit: Oh yeah, and that's not Vista. Vista will seriously bog the Eee PC to death with its multiple processes and ever-so-multiplying need to hog resources. It's just that I like the Vista looks, and luckily, some XP skins were around...

If he knows the schematic of the board better than ASUS.
Either way, it's still going to eat up quite a bit of battery, and to me, battery life is crucial on laptops.

The CPU was rated to run at 900MHz, but by default, the Eee PC decreases the FSB intentionally to save battery life. 900MHz is possible with very minimal heat increase (2-3C maybe) but I wouldn't do it since battery life is cut by 1/4 to 1/3 when the laptop is at 900MHz.

dude, i got the asus 4G black edition i think i have a post on this section about 1-2 months ago.
I haven't tried, or never will clock it, since i already feel the heat of this thing if running more than an hour. However, it is the first time that i see project64 running on eee, and it does look kinda nice to run it on the eee. Have you tried running it on stock clock with the emulator setting everything to low? Right now the only thing i have is starcraft, quake 2 and warcraft 2. I wish to post some screenshots, but apparently i didn't have any screenshot tools nor my print screen is setup yet.

The screenshots I posted are all at stock. It's really amazing that at stock speed, you can still play some N64 games at reasonable speed. Go find eeectl and use it to adjust your clock speeds as well as fan speed and screen brightness. If you have heat problems, my advice is... to take away the fan underneath the board completely. From my own experience, doing so has made the Eee PC considerably cooler and more quiet... for some weird reason. Don't be so alarmed by the heat you feel. The Eee PC was designed to make its case a massive heat spreader. If you open the thing up, you'll find aluminum shields and pieces everywhere.
Edit: All games I have tried will run full speed at 900MHz up until this point. No slow down at all. Edit again: Castlevania at stock speeds: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Needless to say, 900MHz will give full speed, and about two hours of continuous gameplay.

Conker crashes too much with Project64. I can try Rice's video plugin, but I'm feeling too lazy now...
And by the way, that's the Eee at 1179MHz. The original clock is 900MHz, so... ![]() I'm installing a 1200MHz Pentium-M into the thing, anyway. Edit: Rice's video plugin with Frame Skip on at stock speed: ![]() ![]() ![]() Not too shabby... you can get away with this game at full clock, but at stock, it might be unplayable at some point. Oh well, time to order that Pentium-M processor and find myself some soldering kit... there should be a free one around here somewhere.

i mean soldering two more rams into the xbox is even that hard ![]() ah what i have to ask you: what battery do you have? 4400 or 5200 mAh ? i mean 2-3 hours is not much for that little thing, even my 15" 1.5ghz centrino can do ~4-5h with max battery setting in nhc.

I have the 5200mAh pack.
Anyway, I looked, and it isn't that hard. It's just like... you only need to de-solder four corners, then re-solder four corners. The hard part is to find a processor that doesn't use up that much wattage...

Anyway, I really didn't expect this... but the onboard GPU has Pixel Shader capabilities? Wow... time to find one of those games that exclusively requires PS to run.
