Unreal Tournament

well, i whipped out this old game to try the voodoo wrapper (dgvoodoo). it was looking pretty cool, until i tried the "experimental" OpenGL mode. i kept cranking up the AA/AF until i got to 8xS AA and 8xAF...and wow i was pretty impressed, especially considering the readme says this:

Quote:
Awesome system:

* Pentium III 500 or AMD Athlon 550 or faster PC.
* 128 megabytes of RAM.
* 3dfx Voodoo3 / Riva TNT2 class 3D accelerator.
anyhow, enjoy the shots. i think i get pretty good FPS, considering it's 1024x768, 8xS AA, 8xAF, and i was running mirc, winamp, explorer, AIM, and ABC at the same time.

Wow.. How far we've from "graphically" from those days. I still have UT somewhere. But looking at those screenshots, I put it back into the storage box. No sense since I'm playing UT2k4 anyways.

Ahh. My voodoo 5 glide days seem to be coming to an end. I'll keep my Voodoo 5 5500 pci for memory. It's currently in storage. UT ran so smooth on it.

As far as I can see, this is without the high-res textures from the 2nd CD, and with the crappy OpenGL renderer that came in the box.

Try replacing the OpenGL files in your \UT\System\ folder with these enhanced ones from this website. It has many bugfixes (ie: texture corruptions and not-working gamma issue) and is heavily optimized compared to the experimental one.

If you want the game graphically on it's best, install the hires textures from the 2nd CD, and make sure the S3TC option under the OpenGL renderer options in the Unrealtournament.ini (use a text-editor) or Advanced Preferences (type preferences in the console) is turned on. These compressed textures replace quite some standard ones with much higher resolution ones, like certain wall/floor/ceiling textures, Rock textures (CTF-LavaGiant's mountain = :P~), and many others (also check the earth-texture on CTF-Face).

Die, damn you!

EDIT:
hushypushy informed me that the site is down at time of writing. Last update was in Late November, v2.8, which seems to have issues for some people. For reference, I'm permanently attaching the one that has always worked best for me: v2.6.

and as FF8 stated, the game is so graphically outdated i can't bring myself to play it. I'm not a graphics wh0re, but i'de rather plat ut2k4 because it has more visual appeal and practically the same premise

alright, here are some more shots. i put in the enhanced OGL renderer and the special textures. the walls look a bit nicer, and so does the water flowing...i've only tested it on this one map, more to come though (maybe not here but at least for my own testing )

ahh, good ol' ut,

i still prefer to play the original ut than the new ut2k4 in single player mode. but in multiplayer, ut2k4 takes that cake.

Ol' S3TC is similar to DXTC, which is supported by every GeForce and Radeon out there. May I suggest you try out CTF-Face, CTF-LavaGiant, and CTF-Coret with those new textures? I think they make extensive use of those textures, IIRC. (not entirely sure, since I never used them for competitive play due to related mismatch bugs)

And am I mistaken, or do you also have Detail Textures on?

I don't see what's so great about UT2k4...
I mean, it's the exact same as 2k3 exept for different game modes... big deal =/
Yay vehicles! You can put that in a mod anyway..

ever hear of expansion packs? how much do they cost? exactly the same amount as ut2k4 after you get your rebate for already owning 2k3. And iif you don't own 2k3? Your getting a game and expansion pack for the price of the game. So stop your whining kthx.

your another one of those close minded people who try and think of what something could have been to suit your personal taste rather than what it is. You can put ANYTHING in a mod so there is nothing they could do to not have people say that it's "just a mod".

BTW...nice shots hushy
