Cool Some ATI and Nvida demo PICs taken w/my 6800 GT card.

Yup, that's right, ATI demos. All the ATI dems run perfectly w/my new card. Hope you like 'em. Nalu and Timbury coming soon. Enjoy.

Nice shot Kirby. What card are you using? I think that Zoltar has become one of my favorites. Besides looking great, he talks. His advice isn't always so great but he does talk.

6800gt's cost well under $600... And who are you to judge what one does with their own money.

Nope. I tried. There are no wrappers for that one either Reich :/

Not everyone is from the states. Here that card would run a good 600 - 800 bucks, So think about that. Also he was just saying it would be nice to have that money. He's just a little jealous. As alot of us are

Of course I'm aware of that, but he didn't say where he is from did he? Plus, I'm sure Sxamiga didn't get his for $600...

It's one thing to be jealous, but quite annoying to tell someone they wasted their own money on a video card. Heck, I'm sure the 6800gt was well worth it to Sxamiga.

well, the good thing about the 6800 ultra right now is that it will LAST for a long time. sure it's 600 bucks. but it will be a great card for at least a whole year, perhaps 2, and hell, probably more. the 5900 ultra came out about 13 months ago, and it's still enough to play the brand new games adequately (like doom3, far cry, HL2...those games will be satisfied with a 5900 ultra) and same with the 9800 pro which game out what, 20 months ago?

so, break it down. even if your card only lasts a year (/me looks at fivefeet8, gets a new card right when it comes out ), you are still running it cheap. 600 dollars for a year of the best videocard...that's less than TWO BUCKS a day. and you are gonna have a really good card for 2, possibly 3 years. it gets down to less than a dollar a day man

i'd rather have it out to a buck or two a day to have the best videocard there is, rather than say "well BOO YA my GF MX440 can sort of, kind of, run EVERYTHING at the lowest settings and 800x600....but it was 50 bucks!!"

LOL. Good way of putting it. It's totally true though. You may get an older card for cheap, but is it worth it if your a gamer? To say what hushy said and to be like "Well I can play HL2" But that really means 10fps. Sometimes it's worth it.

Games are how I enjoy myself, So I would gladly spend my savings on it. (which I did)

You truly believe future proofing exists in the PC industry? There is no such thing. If a long time is a year. Then ya maybe I'd agree with you. But 2 years in the PC industry is an eternity,

the idea that you can actually future proof computer hardware is so folly

My geForce 3 managed just about 3 years before I finaly feel I need to upgrade. Thus I'm gonna get a 6800GT for about GB£300

Oh I'm sure it managed fine. But cards these days arent about how long they last. People like fivefeet dont buy a 6800Ultra because they want the card to last a long time.

He's under no illusion that the kind of performance he desires wont be in this card when the next high end card is released. And I'm with him, I wouldnt have managed on my geforce 4 over these last 2 and half years when I bought it.

Theres a certain expectation people have out of their computers, They dont buy high end CPUS/Graphic cards because they expect them to future proof. Anyone who gamed on a Geforce 3 last year Probably didnt enjoy modern games much. I know I wouldnt have. Hell Far Cry still runs slow on my system. Let alone the Geforce 4 I bought 2 and half years ago.

Maybe you can't future proof you card but you can extend it's life a little by overclocking it. Of course it doesn't always compare to a new card, but it does help.

I won't upgrade my card till the end of next year. So that would be 2 years. I have a feeling I will be able to enjoy Doom 3 and HL2 jus fine. Sure I won't be able to crank AA on high along with AF and play a 1600x1200, but I can enjoy the game for what it is.

I think that is what hushy was getting at.

Jumping from a geforce 3 to a 6800 is a little too long for having decent speeds throughout new games (and playing at good qualities) But I went from a geforce 2 in November 2003 to a 9800pro a month later ... Which is basically the same thing. You can survive in the gaming world without having the best card every year.
