ATI Ruby Demo On my 6800 Non Ultra

Unfortunately I cannot get AA to work with this Demo. But to be honest, I dont think the demo has much aliasing.

It runs pretty well considering the demo is running with 128 Bit precision and no 3dc with only 128 Megs of Vram. No modifications have been made to the shaders. This is how the demo was meant to be played.

15-30 FPS

Anyway I like this demo. It looks beautiful when it can be ran properly. My FX 5900 Ultra ran it @ 5 FPS with all proper shaders @ 128 Bit precision

Nice shots chrisray!

Only seen it on the FX 5900 Ultra, and it does look better than an Nv3x, But umm the only real difference between the way an X800 Pro would render is lack of 3dc maybe?

3dc is an Ati texture compression technique/format similar to that found in ST3C, DTX and DDS.

Forgive me if this is wrong since I'm a New Convert to ATI

Looks like the 6800 series can do almost everything the x800 series can do, but the x800 series can't do everything the 6800 series can.

Image how crap Nalu would look on x800 with it's inferior shaders, if it even could handle it at all even with major hacks!

Inferior shaders? what do you mean? Shader 3.0 isnt like that. its a programming advancement, and offers features for vertex shading thats powerful.

You need to be able to branch to write nalus hair. Has nothing to do with IQ.

Anyway I am running Nalu right now, its impressive in a different kind of way to Ruby. Ruby is a simulated action enviroment. This is more of a tech demo. Nalu looks alot like Dawn with the exception of haire. Actually Nalu is designed from Dawns Facial features

Ruby's body is completely fk'd. Her armpits look terrible and she has no spine! Other than that, the shaders are impressive looking.

I am personally anticipating the PowerVR Series 5 cards most of all. I'm in love with that architecture and shaders should run very fast on deferred renderers without the massive overdraw of immediate mode renderers. I hope it's released on PC soon... I'll definitely be in line for one.

pretty much tho it was created by ATI they are making it an open STD. for anyone to use taht wants to use it so we will see if NV thinks it has any real benifit tho if they used it the would probally rename it so the uneducated would think its completely diffrent and better.

well it's pretty low...unless you are running like 8xS and 16xAF, then i can understand. but in the 10s FPS on a demo made for your gfx card is low... and to add insult the demo isnt particularly visually exciting either.

The hair is the big technical part here.

Nope. 4xAA/16xAF.

The demo only runs between 30 FPS on a Geforce 6800 Ultra ya know, its always been slow. But its also rendering alot. (IE Hair) Ever ran last Station Gas or Dusk Ultra? Nvidia has no problem releasing demos that run their cards into the ground performance wise
