PSO: Blue Burst

I was gonna just tack this on to the PSO PC thread, but it seems like it needs it's own.

PSO: Blue Burst, for those who don't know, is Phantasy Star Online Ep1/2 for the PC. However, unlike the PSO PC that seemed to get a mere direct port from the Dreamcast and little more, this got some actual work put into it over it's Gamecube/xBox brothers. It has such lovely features as:

1. Online ONLY. Server-side saving means no more local cheating. It also means no more squeezing in some gaming while your DSL/cable is down. Right now it appears to be in beta, they have some crazy pricing ideas for it that I can't even remember. Something like "free to L20 then ya pay" or something.

2. Enhanced graphics. Resolutions up to 1600x1200, 32bit color, and a few options for controlling quality. The polygon count isn't up really, so this only makes the characters look pretty dated.

3. Enhanced storyline mode: Now with more breaks in the action, the Principal's office now gives you individual quests before you complete a part of the story. This is a good thing, but it is pretty hard. The first mission I did seemed like fighting the dragon, and I only got in the beginning of Forest 2! TONS of wolves!

4. It's extremely localized. The current install is Japanese only, and is VERY japanese. All the menus, all the dialogue, most of the options.. ALL japanese. Even character names can be in japanese characters, which pretty much spells doom for any kind of non-japanese release sharing servers with them. For the current version to even run properly one needs to set their PC up for japanese language input and set it to default. I hate that stupid language bar!

Here's just a couple of quick shots I took.. Not sure if I'll get into it really, I have a feeling the Japanese just aren't going to want us there. (plays too much FFXI)

Although the open beta test version is officially for Japanese, it runs without any problem on cwin98se(Traditional Chinese version).

Anyway, I still can't defeat Dark Falz(the final boss in EP1) with autogun+50. :shockwhor

You say its an open-beta? Is it available to the public? (sorry for bumping an about ~12 day thread, but I wanted to know if it was available legally for public download; as he said it was an open-beta)

Damn, so your going to have to have to pay for online service, well doesnt that suck, heh. I don't think I'll be gettin this game after all :P

I think you guys are leaving out the new area. Which is a very cool area I might add.

Having played the beta, and will most likely be paying to play if it gets localized. I must say out of all the PSO's this is by far the most complete.

Now if only we knew what PS:Universe was..

Yeloa, I'm not trying disprove your thing. Yet, I'm slightly skeptic since im a large PS fan and there have been no major announcements of what the game is that I have seen.

I was wondering what inoformation you have.

The trailers have shown questions marks to PSO2?...PSO5?..to the sort in the website version. Many sites are reporting that it is PSO2, as well as the director of PSO2 stating that he has plans on a new version, but not a contiuation of the original.

Nor have they pointed to offline either. This is why I still believe PSU is more of a setup of games, than a single game.
