Zer0's New Classics: Omikron:The Nomad Soul
Here it is Omikron. I hope you enjoy this trip into another underated classic. All shots are taken at 1024x768 with 8xAA and 16xAF. (System specs in sig).
The next game to be chosen is a toss up between the games in the poll. The winner will be put in the next update. Well, here it comes.. Omikron was released in October of 1999. It was herald to be one of the first truely 3d living games. Having said to have a lively city and gameplay that changed with every play through. The games screens were a sight to see. Sadly, even with the backing of singer David Bowie the game died faster than it was even produced. It was later remade into a Dreamcast game, that did just as poorly, but found little bit more success than the pc version. (I remember rushing to pick it up the day it was released. Only to find the 40 dollars I had, was more than enough. Picked it up for 12.99) Story: Omikron starts with Kayl appearing on screen. He proceeds to tell you this isn't your ordinary game. Instead it's a gateway to another world. One in which he needs you to go and save. He asks that you let your soul be swapped into his body. To Solve the mysteries that await you. Before you get a chance to take in everything, you are thrown into the streets of this Chaotic world. Knowing only to try to survive. The Story while seeming simplistic at first. Has many nice twist and turns, as well as a unique and original style to it. Many of the charcters and history of the world is explained in different ways. From billboards to Datapads. The game's story can be played many different ways and different outcomes depending on how you want to play it. I'd gladly give the story a - 8/10 (next update Graphics and Sound) |

Yep, I am gonna post once every night leading up to the release of the next game. I will not post on that game anymore, unless requested to do. (like a request for Septerra core has recently come up) Yet, right now. I'm slightly dishearted to keep doing these, due to a very nasty email. I'm debating to post, that I receieved from what I believe to be a member from the forum or another one. |

I bought this game for a pretty low price and was VERY happy with it! The story is very good, the gameplay is varied and it really makes you feel like living the game... it's awesome!!!

Graphics: The graphics by today's standards are what we would call psx1 - dreamcast era. You can see why and how it was ported to the Dc with such ease. The engine it runs on lets for a free roaming city to be made. (Total of 4 cities in all.) Originally on my p2 400mhz with voodoo 2, I was running sluggish. This was with medium settings on as well. Today the game can be played at 60fps with all settings maxed and Af and AA maxed as well.
Charcter models run from blocky to nice. There are many moments were you will notice yourself stopping to look at things. Yet, a drab color pallette dosn't make things look too pretty. The game moves smoothly (graphically anyway) between the three gameplay modes. It's a no wonder the game's engine is what the GTA guys originally used as a demo for GTA 3. Sound: The sound is different. David Bowie wrote and designed many of the songs in the game. (He's a idol in the game as well.) You can tell from the opening song that the games music is going for a strange futuristic pop sound. Almost Iggy stardust meets Moby. They're is nothing wrong with it, it's just odd. The voice acting is alright, the voices all seem to fit they're respected charcters. Yet, some of the VA's never seem to express emotion very well. In all both are rather something thats need to be experienced first hand, rather than told through a parahgraph. Without further holdings, here's batch 2 of Omikron: The Nomad Soul. |
