It's an XM song of mine changed into BMS ) |

...ok, I thought I'd stop being a lazy batard, and actually post something here... At first I thought of freeware games like Starfight 6 and Battlecruiser 3000 AD, but both are huge downloads. There is always the freeware Star Control 2 remake, "The UR-Quan Masters", but a link to that has been posted before. Then I thought of Christian Pinder's excellent freeware classic Elite remake: "Elite - the new kind", but I discovered that its no longer available due to legal issues with David Braben. ...as a final effort to post something with "space" content, I turned to Elite's sequels "Frontier" & "First Encounters". The Elite Club has the final patched vesions available as shareware , but a friend told me that even after the 30-day period expires, nothing really happens, and the game can continue as usual, so I guess its technically freeware... ...so, if you're not too bored, and can cope with DOS and 320x200 VGA graphics, then by all means, give them a try . below is a collage of some (admittedly not-so-cool) shots from both games... People here should have known about ScummVM. That's the best emu I've ever seen for Lucas Art Adventure game. I begin to download ISO image from eDonkey of such games: DOTT, Indiana Jones, etc. Does anyone know which site they port classic DOS games to Linux?

Here are some more freeware games: Gene Rally is a highly customizable top-view arcade game. Try it out. Recreational Warfare (RecWar) . Blast your opponents to oblivion, in this top-viewed, fast paced, shootin' frenzy of a game. Highly addictive !! In light of the recent announcements for remakes of two of my all time favorite classics, Sid Meier's Pirates! and Geoff Crammond's Stunt Car Racer , I will post a couple of freeware game remakes: First up, is Sentry . Sentry is of course a remake of Geoff Crammond's masterpiece "The Sentinel", one of the most memorable 8-bit sensations of the mid 80's. Second one, is Cris Wild's remake of Mike Singleton's Lords of Midnight . In the site you can also find a remake of the sequel, Doomdark's Revenge. So, play it. Knock yourself out. Make sure however, that all sharp objects are in a safe distance away from you - you may get the urge of slitting your wrists, after you gaze at the Spectrum-like graphics !! The game pics below, are in the same order the games were presented. Last edited by sights; June 26th, 2003 at 03:50. |

Re: Freeware PC games thread (/w screenshots)
heres sum more freeware: DDR = Dance Dance Revolution. There are a number of simulators, but these two are the best. StepMania http://www.stepmania.com Dance with Intensity! http://dwi.ddruk.com These are both compatible with the DWI format. The graphics are so smooth, and the textures are only being rendered from PNG files! |

Enemy Territory is what you mean, it's a free multiplayer game from Activision, it's supposed to be an addon for Return To Castle Wolfenstein but somehow it end up being a free game. I have play it for about 2 weeks and it is a good fun and intelligent game, maybe even better than CS (gasp!). Hey if any of you like pinball, then check out visual pinball, a free pinball game and editor, you can build your own pinball table. here's the screenshots link http://www.randydavis.com/vp/screenshot.htm and here's where to dload it http://www.randydavis.com/vp/download.htm#Latest but you have to be a member of their forum, but hey, if you like pinball give it a try. |

I tried out both of the shooters listed above by Samor, and I have to give a thumbs up. WF is a great game to play when you've got a few minutes to spare, but not enough time to fire up, say, Tiger Woods Golf 2003. I love the look of the game, too. Reminds me of REZ. Like the other game, too, with the only downfall being that I don't read the guy's native tongue, so I'm not exactly sure how the power-up syster works. Both great games, though. |

DOSBox emulates a real mode 386, with a VGA card and SB Sound. The upcoming next version will run some protected mode games as well, and will support VESA. The main problem of DOSBox is it's speed. A 500 Mhz P3 is the bare minimum to run 8088 games, and you'll need a 1GHz machine to run 386 games at an ok speed. A dynarec is planned, but it's not implemented yet. DOSBox uses SDL, and runs in Windows, Linux, MacOS X (check fink.sf.net), Morphos... For the SB sound in games that run in XP, try VDMSound, it's a freeware Sound Blaster emulator for Win2k/XP. There is an alpha win9x version, that may be usefull to people who have a sound card without DOS drivers (Audigy2, onboard AC97 packed with the lates VIA boards...). About old games compatibility on new computers, Check VOGONS. They have some nice fixes for common problems, and a nice part of the old games tech "scene" hangs in there (DOSBox, VDMSound and ScummVM coders). |
