No GeForce 5. There will be no successor in name to the GeForce 4 according to nVidia. The next chip will be named something different, but it will be out by then. August, I think it's due.

I also heard that M$ might be scoring the rights to the game and make it Xbox only... hmm that would be ALOT cheaper than buying a new pc. The Xbox just dropped to $299. Also if they make it Xbox only the developers can focus on ONE platform and make it the best ever. REALLY pushing the hardware. Rather than wasting time on compatibility with old systems. Cut months off development time and we'll see it sooner.

Yes but we'd only see it on the X-Box, and ID knows that it ain't gonna do that well (they ain't thick), so I don't see that happening in all honesty.

I'd assume they'd have a keyboard and mouse for the XBOX, just like they had for the DC (not sure about the keyboard).

I agree, I doubt that it'll come to the XBOX. MS and Id aren't exactly the best of buddies. John Carmack doesn't like Direct3D at all, which is why he only develops for OpenGL. Maybe it'll come to some other console though (Quake 3 was ported to DC and PS2).

Did you ever play Halo?? I found it to be very easy to play with the controller. I agree that M$ has a mouse and keyboard coming, especially with the new online stuff around the corner. If not an offical M$ product, one released by the no namers (ie Madkatz).

They also have a headset coming so you can yell at your buddies while you play. No trying to type something while you get shot BS.

Hey, Halo was a first generation game though...so you can't hold it against the xobx.... I mean, timesplitters, unreal tournament, and even GTAIII has TONS of frameskips/slowdowns.

Pretty much all X-Box games are coming to PC after around 6 months anyway
I'd rather play on a more powerful machine and really see the benefits

well, the xbox uses a variant of the Geforce 3 and should run all the effects properly (and the 733Mhz celeron cpu should be "ok" too). If a console port does happen, you can expect it to happen on the xbox first.

i might run but it had problem when htey showed at that mac convention useing a mac that had a gf3 in it. The xbox would be the only current console that would stand a chance at runing it.

I WANT THAT GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love doom and doom2. Im getting them sometime this week. Are thoes screen shots from teh actual game play or movie clips? I just hope the game has teh same hell atmpsphere, not genitily altered humans one like in Re. I hope there's the old fire shooting demons who shoot fire out of there hands. Think my Nvidia RIVA TNT2 could run it?

IIRC, Doom3 requires a GeForce 3 Ti500 and a 1.4GHz CPU to run at 60FPS in 640x480, low detail, although I could be mistaken

Carnage, from what I have seen and heard of Doom III, it will take at lest a GF 3 and more likely a GF 4 to run it. I doubt that a Riva TNT or a GF 2 could handle it. I may be wrong, but I don't think so.
As for keeping the Demons and other "hell spawn" in there, T totally agree. Those creatures are what make Doom and Doom II so much fun to play in the first place.
sincerely,

BTW Carnage, are you getting Doom and Doom II for PC or PSX? The PSX version has both Doom and Doom II on it. It looks and plays just like the PC version. At least to me it does.
Doom III on PS2, I doubt it. I don't think that the PS2 is a powerful enough console to run it.
sincerely,

Not really. The models are originally made at about 1 mil or so poly count, then they are run through John Carmack's program which generates a 5000 or so poly model that uses bump mapping to attain nearly the same deatail as the million poly count one.
You are also slightly mistaking about the lighting. No lighting work is done the models. Unlike in any previous 3D engine, all lighting is done real-time, in-engine. There are no pre-rendered "light maps" or anything. So now light is scalable, stackable with other lights, etc. Before any lighting had to be anticipaed and pre-rendereed.

So is this gonna try the CPU or 3D Accelerator?

Lighting and stuff is done by Vertex and Pixel shaders so, mostly GPU I'd assume.
