Yep Q3 is my FAV FPS for 1v1. Nothing beats Q3 at 1v1 pure skill!
I still play it sometime. I played this game for 2 years straight... everyday lol Is just that good. What a beautiful game. I hope Q4 doesn't take to long to come out. |

I think the aimed fps for that is something like 30fps on a 1ghz machine with a geforce 3 at 640x480! Just think for a moment what kind of framerate Quake 3 runs at on those specs... BOB |

i don't really like quake 3... when i borrowed it, i was like, whooo hooo, i'm gonna play quake 3 arena, when i played it, i got disappointed. i mean, the movement was a little off my taste and i was expecting better weapons. i somewhat liked the characters but, all and all, quake 3 was a disappointment for me, quake 4 better be better... if quake 3 were like UT, then i'd love it, but... it ain't, so yeah.

Q3 Free for all, capture the flag and team death match gets crazy... Lots of crazy newbs and all that.
However the bot method kicks ass. Bots are actually ok to get practice and are smart in capture the flag. You can give orders to them. Q3 is just amazing in 1v1 deathmatch though. If you don't think so just watch a match of pros. It takes a lot of skill unlike other games where is all about cheap sniper rifles and hiding on the walls. I heard from a good source a few months ago that Q4 was under development. |

Quake series for me too...
Even rocket spam must be planned... If you get hit by newsbs spamming then you deserve to die. This is one thing that anoys a lot of people. The so called "Rocket spam" Now it has been proven that the rail is a weapon of skill, Shotgun, plasma and granade take some skill as well. However is all about dodging, you can dodge any weapon in Quake 3 and still kick someone's ass with a simple machine gun or even the gaunlet. Not to mention that only Quake allows rocket jumping ![]() Now Unreal T is a nice game too however most people will just use the stupid sniper rifle and camp like whores taking the fun away. |

I find Quake 3 is only good for deathmatch, and only against human players. The bots are not realistic at all and are either too stupid or too smart. I mean I'd hide in a dark niche along the wall so they won't detect me but they always know exactly where I am and get the jump on me. I could understand if they saw me trying to hide but even if they don't they still know. Plus they'll use their preferred weapons at all times (using a shotgun or rocket launcher from the other side of the map isn't exactly the smartest thing to do but they'll always do it). Still, for 1 vs 1 DM nothing beats Quake 3. The weapons are very balanced (rockets don't rule the game anymore) and it requires more skill than UT.
On the other hand, UT deathmatch isn't as exciting or balanced as Q3 (some of the weapons are just not hardcore enough; bio rifle, razorjack). However, it rules in capture the flag and other modes. The bots are also far more realistic than the ones in Q3. They can make mistakes and don't always have perfect targeting, they're a lot more human than bots in Q3. One game reviewer even admitted that he played an on-line game for 30 minutes against some players and never realized that he was actually playing against all bots. The developer of the "reaper" bot (the original bot) from Quake works at Epic so it's no surprise the level of bot intelligence in the game. > Not to mention that only Quake allows rocket jumping UT has rocket jumping as well. In fact you can even "rocket jump" with weapons like the ASMD shock rifle (secondary mode) and the impact hammer. > Now Unreal T is a nice game too however most people will just use the stupid sniper rifle and camp like whores taking the fun away. The sniper rifle is not that powerful in UT (you have to get a head shot for an instant kill and a fast opponent can dodge the shots easily) and a good rocket shot will take those campers out of their den. The rocket launcher in UT allows you to fire multiple rockets so you can blast campers to hell with it and of course there's also the flak cannon and the almighty Redeemer for dealing with campers.
