So optimization is really, making the best out of what you got. And Alan Wake certainly doesn't look that optimized to me.
Yeah? Well, that your opinion or perspective. Optimization is still optimize there's is no standard for it! Like you said, make the best out of what you got. Beside, those images are from 2006 who knows what they've done to it in the past 3 years. I'm sure they wouldn't put an unfinished product on the market or should i say an unoptimized product

Okay,

Well, theres nothing showing Remedy making the best use of those 4 cores. Sure, they are just running threads on them, but that is clearly not making the best use of them.

Yes, people do not run into the issues like Crysis has with being bloated and unoptimized. And we really don't want to see a quad core CPU as the minimum requirement CPU.

Let me put this to you: If you are a coder, whould you make your game bloaty due to lazyness & make the system requirements ridiculous, OR will you try your hardest to make your code accessible to most people by optimizing as much as you can, so everyone has a fair share to using it?

Yeah.. um... I skipped all of those previous discussion about graphics, visuals, multi-core, and... what-nots. Thing is... do we have more screens? More recent ones, that is?

Game is all about the atmosphere. They said the lightning is going to be a big part of the game and that your main weapon will be light. And if you look at the video you will see why. Looks like the monster will only come out at night. I personally like that. Exploring and doing puzzles in day time and defending yourself at night. Everything in real time. This could be a really scary game

Oh and those pictures are really old. The last time Alan Wake made an appearance was way back in E3 06. 2 years ago. There havent been new stuff since then =\

Oh no... vaporware? As in... did it disappear out of this world without any trace left...? Not another one now?

Not vaporware, since it usually refers to games that will never come out =/.

It's not like Remedy never did the same thing (take AGES) with another game before. (I think they took like... 5 years with Max Payne? The first one)

There's still news of the game coming out, once in a while, mostly interviews and stuff like that. Or releasing one shot once in a long while, mostly re-releasing old screenshots in high-resolution too.

But they did say that they'd talk more about/show it more once they'd be closer to releasing it. Right now they're still deep in development, I can understand why they'd want stuff to be more "final" (less stuff being modified until the release) before talking more about the game.

(still kinda too early to call it a vaporware, considering Remedy way of doing stuff, this is kinda typical of them)

If I was a game coder, I would be forced by my boss NOT to lose my time over "ridiculous" concepts such as optimizations, I would be told that releasing the game on a certain date is more important than releasing a finished product, and that's exactly what I would do, despite not agreeing with that view, to avoid losing my job.

Which is why the game industry sucks nowadays. There is zero quality left, due to publishers pushing for those all important $$$. The only quality left is in the independant sector: everyone else like EA and Ubisoft sell out, in favour of half-finished **** just so that the corporate executives can add a few hundred thousand to thier salaries. >.<

Yah, I think I read somewhere they were re-doing a lot of stuff. So, I think it'll look even better later. (if possible)

Well, it is also on Xbox 360, it only has 3 cores? :P I don't think there is much to this "rumor", in usual if they are making a multi platform title, they will not optimize it a lot for one platform. It is also "Vista" Exclusive for pc, which means it probably uses 3 cores, since vista would take up all power from one of the cores

Not really a rumor. It uses all the cores, but it's made in a "Multi-cores" way, that if there's open cores, it'll use them. (that's pretty much the feeling I get from the little demo they did, and what the guy said. Maybe he's just not using the right words, but it was hinting to something like that)
It's just not well optimized.

My mouse takes more CPU power than Vista does. (I know you're joking, but w/e )
(it did for every OS, to be honest, I never saw a OS be a CPU-whore, but a mouse? Yesh x_x)
