the end of mame as we know it..fullspeed gauntlet legends.

i hate to bring this up but i am bored..

i am mame fanatic and love arcade games but one particular release of mame has got my eye as it can run a few powerful games usng your video card and sound card an hardly any cpu power..

i am talking about mame plus plus as its called..

why do i say this is the end??

here is why..

i did some tests with a my two pc's and the results were INCREDIBLE to me but most likely it will piss off the mame team as it tries to properly emulate hardware not hack it up and run faster than it should..

my old pentium 4 2.6 gets averages around 3 fps with mame 0.118 on crusin usa using a geforce 2

now with hacked mame plus plus i get 50fps on the stage select screen and average 20fps during gameplay..

and your not going to believe this but i on my x2 5600+ gauntlegends runs almost fullspeed!! thats the game that people claimed needed 20ghz to run but clearly someone has found out a way to use videocards to lighten the load of mame emulation..

i got a sick feeling that whoever created this program will be the end of mame itself..

also i completely understand if this topic gets locked and deleted.

Good news, but of course, from a playability POV wasn't it much wiser just to get a Dreamcast (emulator) instead? I know Mame is for preservation purposes and emulating the system as accurately as possible, so in such a way a hack like this is probably just falling in between the two extremes of using a port to a different system, and perfect emulation of the original.

This reminds me of the discussion that we had in this thread.

I don't see what the big fuss is about with MAME Plus Plus. I appreciate accurate emulation, but I also welcome enhancements. If my computer is capable of doing more, then I should be able to do more and not be limited. There's always the original MAME for those who want to not have fun and play games sucky speeds when they know that their computer is more than capable of playing it at better speeds. So it's not like people are forced to use MAME Plus Plus. I mean, come on. They say that MAME is only meant to document the hardware, actually being able to play games are just a side effect. :/

The online code seems not to be opensource.
Not all that offending, but the MAME folks can be as rigid as M33 if not even more, and they certainly have a loud enough voice to have their discontent known to everyone. Not much to add here, expect recommending not to get in their rifle sights

From 2 to 50 !!!!! Hell, thats more than enough to convert me
