Adaptoid for sale!

Hey guys, I'm not sure if it's allowed but I wanted to let you guys here know that I'm selling my adaptoid. We all know it's the greatest N64 > USB adapter bar none. Unfortunately they stopped making them and they are close to impossible to find. This auction is finishing in a day so if you're interested you should check it out. If this post isn't aloud I apologize (I haven't been here in a while)
-Emmanuel

Official ADAPTOID N64 to USB adapter for controller-new - (eBay item 330164411218 end time Sep-14-07 20:07:46 PDT)

And indeed I do believe advertising is not allowed. Having been there since 2002, you'd probably have known better

"For sale?" I was already preparing myself to see a spambot

I know that there's people who want an adaptoid here. Myself being one of them since I heard that they're rare but it is against the rules to advirtise your stuff here. Since it seems like you're a senior member, they might let it slide though. $26 bucks isn't bad though, last I heard, they were going for $35 but that's for new unused ones.

k, I've leave it up until one of the mods, decides. It's not exactly a pyramid scheme or scam. I just didn't want to sell it without informing the biggest emulation community first.

You might be able to get away with this thread in the bin. Might want to double check with a moderator to see if it's ok to post this here, in the bin or not at all.

This thread is NOT in violation of any rules:

Spam Policy

Emuforums is a spam free forum. This includes member posted advertisements, cons, and pyramid schemes. All spam threads will be removed immediately and without prior consultation. For a more detailed definition of what we consider as spam, please see the "What do you mean by "spam?" entry in the FAQ.
Definition: Advertisement: a paid announcement, as of goods for sale, in newspapers or magazines, on radio or television, etc. (dictionary.com)

See what I did there? He is NOT getting paid or benefitting some third party, hence it is not an ad. You could say he's promoting his auction, but if you take the rules as they are, it is not an advertisement and is completely in the right here.

Furthermore we've had similar threads about the sale of items on eBay, and considering the no tolerance take the mods have here, should've been closed if regular users linking eBay auctions counted as advertisements. But they weren't, so unless the mods are running some double standards its not a violation in anyway, shape or form.

Ty to the vigilantes for enforcing a rule they didn't understand.

I wasn't trying to enforce anything, I just didn't know what was defined as spam that's why I said he should double check with a moderator. I sure the above posters didn't know either what exactly is defined as spam, thus the rules were mentioned.

I've seen threads closed because people posted links to their non-profit personal site or personal forum that they wanted to share with others. It's alright to do that if it's in a sig but announcing it in a forum is considered advirtising. I've seen it done before and that's why I'm positive that this is against the rules. So how can a thread be closed because someone posts their personal site because it's considered advirtising but something that is meant to made a profit from be acceptable? But I've also seen senior members get away with advirtising stuff also which is why I think this is maybe allowed. This thread is about profit making from the person who made the thread therefore it's advirtising.

My point stands. Clearly the rule discriminates against newer members who advertise in their first few posts because its assumed they registered with the intention of advertising, which is different.

Whether some threads were closed or not, technically its not against the rules. You said it was and I've debunked that claim. The definition of what is spam and isn't is very situational and will depend on the consensus in the thread, but to say its 'against the rules' is a fabricated statement.

Technically, it may not be against the rules but the admins will interpret it as breaking the rules. Trust me.

Hmm. This thread is by a person who was not a new member who didn't just register to advirtise and he wasn't making a profit at all, just sharing his texture forum with others.

What I, and others are trying to point out is that this is against the rules by the way the admins interpret the rules regarless of what the "technical" definition of advirtising or spam is in your, or dictionary.com's definition of advirtising is.

Should we qualify all the threads that have linked to ridiculous eBay actions as spam then? (eg $15000 NES game, a soul on eBay etc.). Should all posts to eBay be qualified as spam? Should it be determined on a per case basis depending on the thread's creator intentions? What was first? ebay or the ebay spam?

Again, this is another case where the rules need clarifying. Thanks for your attention

Well, with the $15,000 NES game situation, that was intended to show others how crazy it is for a NES cartridge to be worth so much and the original poster most likely wasn't intending to make a profit from it. I'm sure the original poster knew that none of us would be able to afford something like that and wasn't trying to get us to try to bid for it. Much like other eBay threads that are posted that are meant to show others how stupid people are for paying for a piece of toast that has Jesus's image burnt in it, it's pretty obvious when the intent is to make a profit from it but instead for us to lol on how dumb people are.

But I do agree with you that the rules do indeed need clarifying on this situation.

We people in the open discussion area do not appreciate bin-like posts consisting of less than 10 words sentences. Instead, you could rephrase your post as "the terminology and concepts you are using are fuzzy and imprecise at best. Would you mind rephrasing them?".

Maybe there should be a rule then..say at least 4 star status to post something like this? Limit to once a month? Spam is annoying yes, but if I have a few games to sell, I'd rather sell it to peeps on this forum...hell, it'd be so cool to have a separate forum just for setting up game trade between members...that would be sweet!

Buy/Sell/Trade Forums usually cause more trouble than they are worth.

Generally yes that's true. I believe NGEmu was considering one but opted against it due to the high risk of trolls. The only classifieds I know that work well at least 99% of the time are the ocforums ones. They are meticulously moderated and we have Trollhunters, uh, hunting for trolls. No to mention the addition of other useful verification methods. (no free email addresses, heatware, item verification, etc)

Sorry if I caused some commotion. It would be a much happier world if we could all simply head over to ZTNet and just buy as many adaptoids as we wanted.

This is a matter of drawing a line in the gray area is sticking with it. I doubt there can be a rule clarification that'll be satisfactory enough without having to go through draconian measures like say... "What? You need to be a 4-star member and you only do it once a month?"... because no matter how l33t you are, nobody would like it either if you made NGEmu your personal trading post.

Well, Violineb good luck on that hopeful clarification.

Actually, it's nothing against you. Vanit tried to challenge us by saying "Ty to the vigilantes for enforcing a rule they didn't understand.
" and I was trying to clarify what I believe the admins consider advirtising because of their prior actions in the past on the issue regardless of what the technical definition is. So the whole thing is nothing about you after that point.
