Virginia Tech Shootings

Virginia tech shootings
Quote:
Virginia Tech University has suffered what authorities are calling the deadliest campus shooting in US history. At least 33 people have been killed, and dozens more wounded, after a gunman went on a shooting rampage. All classes have been cancelled, and entrances to the campus have been sealed.

A gunman opened fire in a Virginia Tech dormitory and then in a classroom across campus two hours later on Monday, killing 32 people. He then committed suicide.

Charles Steger, Virginia Tech president, said, "The university is shocked and indeed horrified that this would befall us and I want to extend my deepest and most sincere and profound sympathies to the families of these victims, which include our students."

Students said there were no public-address announcements or other warnings on campus until an e-mail more than two hours after the first shooting, around the time the gunman struck again.

The college president said the university decided to rely on e-mail and other electronic means to notify members of the university, but with 11,000 people driving onto campus in the morning, it was difficult to reach everyone.

The shootings spread panic and confusion on campus.

Virginia Tech student, said, "It is just insane. That is such a big number, you know we were already saying that this was like a college-Columbine. It is just really sad."

Another student, said, "This is something that no one will ever get over, I mean the people who died, yes they've finished their pain but the pain for everybody else will just go on forever."

The US senate held a moment of silence for those killed in the shootings.

President George W. Bush described the shootings as a "terrible tragedy" and offered his condolences.

Bush said, "I told them that my administration will do everything possible to assist with the investigation and that our players stand ready to help, local law enforcement, and the local community, in any way we can during this time of sorrow."

At least 26 people were being treated at three area hospitals for gunshot wounds and other injuries.

Investigators offered no motive for the attack. The gunman's name was not immediately released, and it was not known if he was a student.
A sad day in US history. What I hate about things like this is that it woulda been better if those responsible would have just jumped off a bridge instead of causing mass chaos and killing innocent people for no reason.

I heard about it when I got back home from school yesterday. They played it all day and all night on all of the channels. It made me depressed just knowing that that happened not to far away from where I live. It makes me sad to think that when I was at school in the morning not worrying about a thing, that all of those people were going through so much terror there at VA Tech at the same time. Those were people who were going there to better their lives and they had bright futures, then that idiot decided to take those innocent people with him because of whatever problem that he had. You would think that you wouldn't have to worry about this stuff after high school. At least that's what I thought. High school was a scary time because you never know if there is that one kid who has gotten teased to the point to where he wants to take matters in his own hands. But in college, you would think that those people would be more emotionally stable and not take things so seriously. Why do people always want to take innocents with them before they kill themselves? There was another idiot a few weeks ago who did the same thing with his wife and children. His little children had nothing to do with whatever problems that he and his wife had.

I'm getting tired of hearing about the president always offering condolences to the families of people who die of tragedies. He doesn't give a **** about anyone but himself. Just like when troops die in Iraq, he doesn't care about them, if he did, then he would pull them out but that's a different topic. He pretends that he cares, offers his condolences, and then he goes back to his regular life again. He doesn't have to live with the permanent pain that the family members have to go through.

Just the other day, I thought to myself that it's been a long time since something horrible like this has happened. I guess I spoke to soon. That just goes to show you that life is too short. You never know what's going to happen tomorrow or right after reading my post. We all think that we're going to have long happy lives and live until we're 70 or 80 with grandchildren but you never know that your day to go is tomorrow. That's probably what those students thought the night before the VA Tech incident. My heart and condolences go out to the families of those young people who were killed yesterday.

There was more info on the shooting today. The news said that the suspected shooter was a 23 year old Asian who was a senior there. They also said that some people thought that he had mental problems. They also said that he left a disturbing note expressing hate for rich kids.

Yeah I have friends and acquaintances that go to school there, a large chunk of their student body is made up of kids from my area. My stomach dropped when I heard what happened, this really hit close to home.

My cousin usually has classes in the same building....luckly his class was at 11AM and wasn't even on campus yet.

It was a scary time not hearing from him for a few hours -_-

I heard about it at work, and I instantly went into a deep thinking. This really pissed me off for many reasons. There is no reason for it, and I just can't understand.

Today on the news they said the killer had previous mental problems and in writing class wrote some really distorted storys with a lot of violence. They said he had a problem with "rich" kids. Although not a good reason at all (I know people who own so many house and cars it's not funny, and they treat my family like gold) I think the reason he could have had such a problem with them is because he was from south Korea. Maybe his family worked their ass off to get here and then saw how easy some familys have it. What he(and many other people) forget is, those parent work their ass off too.

That's a small theory off the small information I got from the news report. I truly feel sorry for those who have lost, and even the family of the killer.

I was in bed watching the news last night, right before I went to sleep. That's when I saw this news. I can't describe it, it's too extreme for words. Why do these kids always have to take others with them? Do they want others to have a life as crappy as his own? I'm sure he succeeded.

>>They said he had a problem with "rich" kids.

I was thinking of Paris Hilton (and immediately some bad jokes came up), but in all honesty, even she doesn't deserve to be murdered in cold blood like these students.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I can't stand about 98% of the people in this world, but killing them? no...I kind of think a little different from hearing about all of this...werid.

I don't know why these ****-heads bother taking others down with them.

Most people I see use conventional thinking to try to analyze the kid, the kid is clearly not thinking in any conventional way so those efforts would be futile.

Jack Thompson has already started to blame videogames. (Debunking curtosy of C|net News)

Apparently, the "shooter" was a Korean man (forget his name). He was said to be a loner and was even called "weird" from his roommate. Also, he was sent to counciling once after he wrote disturbing stuff in his creative writing. He was believed to be an anti-depressant drugs.

Well what can i say... tragic, but mankind learns from mistakes. Our generation is full of violence, hatred, anger and stress and therefore makes even earth an unsafe place to live. As humans, we have to learn to help each other and not put others down. We should not aggravate others and "label" other people. We should all treat each other with equal respect. I hope we all learned a lesson from this horrible event and that something like this were to never occur again.

My father is one of those dumbass people who blame these kind of disasters on video games. Everytime, even in this situation. My dad is an idiot. The dude was 23 years old and in college. He was an adult. So video games aren't to blame. Even if somehow video games were involved, the dude was an adult. If he was gullable enough to let video games influence his life at that age, he must have been a moron.

The killer left a note saying, "You caused me to do all this" which i presume is towards his girlfriend.
America really does need to revise its laws on gun handling.
