First HD-DVD Movie Leaked

First HD-DVD Movie Leaked Onto BitTorrent | TorrentFreak

"The HD-DVD has been cracked, and high definition content is now being distributed freely over BitTorrent. We all knew this would happen sooner or later, looks it was “sooner”. The first HD-DVD to be uploaded to BitTorrent is Serenity, the Firefly movie."

That was a given. The industry never learns...

Hackers like to prove themselves by doing this type of things.

So is Bluray next?

How big are the files. Seems to me people would avoid the pirating due to the download time.

I've heard about the crack. It is based on a software weakness. Meaby the guys who cracked it used the same technique. The article is here.

With the increasing bandwith of our internet connections, 19.6 gb will soon means nothing.

Nah, a lot of people have fast connections these days. These news are a bit old though.... like 4 days or so. There is not that much point in wasting any money on copy protection... appearently the one blue-ray uses is more expensive and harder to crack.... but I am sure it'll be hacked too. Wouldn't surprise me if Sony paid someone to hack the HD-DVD as fast as possible though

The rip for Batman begins is almost 25GB. Still, anyone that is truly baffeled by this being achieved should have a look at the past. This is completely expected (at least by me anyways) and no amount of encryption will keep a good hacker down. Still, it's rather pointless at the moment, since there's no HD-DVD burners available that I know of, so I wonder where people will store these.

I can't see these being very popular until the price of HD-DVD burners come down quite a bit.

Bleemcast copy protection: Still standing strong after 7 years

In short you can say it was just a matter of time. Here in the NL EMI stopped using copy protection on their cds, they said they found out it did little to stop the copying of discs. Took them roughly 5 years to find out

Speaking about copy protection on music CDs, Sony is still paying up for their 2005 rootkit fiasco.

Just wait for the HD-DVD burners to get cheaper, and the number of torrents will grow exponentially

Oh, no. My dad has over 1000 movies on disk, is he wrong? Nooo! He does it because... I forget why, but it was a damn good reason. Just because this is happening, so what? Most people buy the DVD anyways.

Bluray and HD-DVD will take some time to truly flourish. Until the market is relatively saturated, i.e. most people can afford & have purchased either, it will not be a very big deal.
