I can see the social critique in Serial Experiments Lain just fine, however I did not watch it to get a lecture.
I watch anime to either enjoy a good story or a good laugh, social criitque can be part of the package, but only that, the primary reason should still be to tell a story (into which you can squash all the social critique you like if it fits and does not involve exessive insanity (one of my major dislikes about psychological anime...like NGE)).

Well, to each to his own. That is the beauty of the variety of types in Anime I guess. I like series that question and make me think about my thought foundations. I also enjoy series with good and epic stories like Seirei no Moribito, but overall I like much more works which pose sever critiques to our way of thinking and seeing life. Though, I agree that I prefer when it is coupled with a good story and likeable characters (like Dennou Coil) it makes the watching experience a lot more pleasurable. Even then, that doesn't mean I don't enjoy psychological screwers like Boogiepop Phantom more than lighthearted series.

And, as I said, it is me the ones that see Lain as a social critique. Other people have seen it primarely as a Jules Verne esque type work, other as an abstract way to detail the birth of a God, and the such. That is what I referred with when I said that it had several meaning layers, and that such type of series require several rewatches and thinking them over in order to fully enjoy them.

hi guys i'm finally back to the forums

To Proto

Higurashi no naku koro ni is an exelent anime at first sight i was thinking it was a cute anime with some comedy but is a cute anime with cute murder scene anyway from what i watch there are different arc of the history and all the characters and the town has a dark past . I got a lot of theory about the history and is a good anime to argue with my real life friends a lot of thanks for the recommendation

PS: i'm right now on eps 12 and i will wach the second season

I'm glad to see you liked it sigmax As I mentioned earlier, if you have some spare time, be sure to give the tips thread to the episode tip you've seen a read. It gives some extra insight on the story. The first tips seem to be a little useless, however there are many that give important clues to the story

Woah...the ending of Eureka 7 just left me going wtf...so anyone got a link where they explain it? I can't exactly discuss it here as that would spoil it for people that have not seen it yet.

Ok now my second question...or rather questions. Are there any good stop off points in Bleach (please give me approximate episode number)? Or is it just like Naruto where the story just keeps on going and going and you don't want to stop? I am hoping for a definite ending somewhere as it's still ongoing and I hate watching incomplete anime unless there is a part where I can stop off and wait till the next stop off point is completed at least. Sort of like between Sagas on DBZ or Yu-Gi-Oh!. Naruto was different because untill the fillers started the story just kept on going and going eventhough significant events ended, basically every episode made you want to watch the next. In fact the moment I am looking for is usually shown by the insertion of filler episodes.

Why is Bleach called Beach anyways? I can't see any reference to anything like that...other than possibly them cleaning the world...it seems like a tottally random name at the moment.

Bleach = Ichigo's hair is orange = his peers at the school though he was bleaching it. the end

Bleach stop points.... I guess you could say there is the Soul Society arc, the Bounto arc, and after that its a continous ride up to the present episode. Even after those arcs there are still loose ends, but they are good stop points.

And I guess I should go and see Eureka 7. I just recently finished Ichigo Mashimaro. I think it is the cutest comedy I've ever seen. Not the ROFL type of comedy like Ouran or School Rumble, but the type of comedy that keeps you smirking throughout the episode, ala Lucky Star without the obscure Anime references, more similar to Azumanga Daioh I guess, but cuter

Ahh...I keep on forgetting bleach is not only the stuff used to turn clothes white...it's also used when changing colours hair or fabric etc...

Hmm could you tell me which ep the bounto arc ends on?

By the way it's not that Eureka 7 is any deeper than other anime or that it's particularily confusing, it's just the ending shown did not quite show enough so I am left guessing as to what actually happened and only have my assumptions nothing concrete. I might understand more if I could understand japanese as I doubt the fansub was all that good. Maybe if my friend records the dubbed ending I might be able to understand it better.

So sorry if my wtf gave you false hope. It's a good anime, but nowhere near legendary and maybe I am I growing out of anime...but it feels like I had seen it all before just packaged slightly differently this time...I can't recall the names of all the animes now though (apart from Blue Gender, NGE and Last Exile)(It's better than NGE(with my low view of it...not it's cult status), but not the other 2 in my opinion).

Not exactly a link... But if you REALLY want to know it. I'm 99% sure it's somewhere explained in the 30 pages of posts
Link
And meh... not everything made sense to me either

As for Bleach stop points. I agree with Proto.
I stopped after the Bounto arc though... Even though i should of saved my time and stopped after the Soul Society arc...

Still watching Strawberry panic. And started with Tsubasa Chronicle S2.

Strawberry panic is lol...
The setting reminds me a lot of Maria sama ga miteru. With a all girl school/student council... But some of the lesbian behaviors in Strawberry panic is just lol... I think it doesn't has the effect it wanted to have. But all in all. I'm enjoying the anime. I'm at episode 23 atm. So almost at the end. It actually does sort of have a story. And most of the characters are likable. So if someone feels like giving a yuri anime a try Strawberry panic would be a interesting choice.

Overall better than i expected it would be.

Also finished Saikano. Was less sad than i expected. But a interesting watch. In the end i feel bad for almost all the characters... Quite a sad story.

Ahh bingo...well that sort of confirmed what I was thinking. Thanks for the link.

So now can anyone tell me which episode the bounto arc ends on? Or at least an approximate number so that I can weary of an impending end somewhere around there?

All you need to say is like in the 90s or preferably more exact like episode 96. That was just an example but I would really apprecaite info on the end of the bounto arc in bleach like that.

Around 110. At 96 I think it's the battle between kurotsuchi and the old geezer bounto with the stone whale.

It seems to be either 108 or 109... After that there are some good episodes then bad episodes again.

Here's a link to episode titles: Bleach (TV) - Anime News Network

Note: the ones on right are episode titles in US, I think!

Ichigo and Kariya battles in 108, then till 110, it's kinda an arc ending.
They conclude what Kariya did and why, and stuff.
Then comes a few filler episode, and after that, the arrancar arc.

Hmm ok, so it looks like it's allright to watch up to episode 108 then, or possibly watch a few fillers but then stop at the start of the new arc. Thanks guys.
