The OP video of Shangri-La looks gorgeous and absolutely stunning. Does the series live up to it?

About KuroKami, I'm up to date with the manga scanlations, but the anime received pretty poor reviews when it just launched. How has it fared so far?

Kurokami received poor reviews because it only very loosely follows the mangas plot.
Which is what makes it so awesome. I've got 5 people to watch it in RL and they went ahead and watched the next 10 episodes without telling me.
During the first episode.
MY sister said "OH ****" out loud while she was on the phone.
My other friends jaw dropped.
Just watch the first episode through to the end
Shangri-La is an experience..........lol.........

There are several main characters in that anime........but the events revolve around the girl.
The second one is similar but the main characters roll is dominant. You might like it if you don't dislike transvestites in supporting roles *Cough*

Kurokami isn't bad...but it feels like there's no set path to the plot or story. You have some grasp about it, but then the next episode just does something different. So like I said, not bad, but for straight forward people it can get annoying

I'm guessing you read the manga first?

A bit...and by that I only mean a handful of chapters. I knew right away it was going to turn out to be a very good dramatic series with a ton of cliff hangers. So I'm just going to wait out this series and just read and watch it in one go I hate waiting a week for the next chapter/episode on series like that

A lot of my friends think it's weird, but sitting down and watching an entire series in a week just makes you appreciate the story more. Lots of people only remember parts that just stood out more but not necessarily defining. A lot of my friends, including my older brother, usually only remember "cool" scenes well.

Like fighting scenes for example. Sure, they're flashy and heart pumping at times, but it's usually easy to see where they go. Bad guy whoops ass, good guy comes bounces, we see a little dramatic scene of the bad guys past, bad guy starts whooping again, but the good guy always wins in the end. A lot of times nowadays I just scroll through scenes like that. Not the dramatic story part, but the whole roaring, screaming, power upping scenes... I have enough of that from DBZ

i can't get into action-anime if the main protagonist is a girl.
for funny anime like school rumble, lucky star, ouran highschool host club, or azumanga daioh, i don't mind female leads.

well actually i don't mind female leads in action anime if the girl doesn't play the tough-guy part.
like Inuyasha for example has Kagome as the main protagonist, but Inuyasha is the tough-guy doing the main fighting.
Its just hard as a guy to get-into an anime where a female is the tough-character doing the fighting.
I also don't like videogames where the main fighter is a girl.

I'm the type of person that likes to personify myself with the character; not the type that watches the show objectively.

yeah that part was awesome.
the other part i thought was awesome was when Heero falls off a mountain or something (forgot what happened) and breaks his leg.
then he just pushes the broken bones back together and walks it off!

yeah thats why i also like to just watch anime when its finished.
but with some series like Bleach theres no-end in sight, so you're forced to wait every week for new eps.
and like you said, a bunch of events are forgotten that way.
its even worse with naruto where they fried our brains with like ~100 fillers in a row; does anyone even remember what happened in the first episodes? xD

its alright.
i watched the dub (only first season and missed a few episodes).
it wasn't bad, but its one of those anime you have to be in a certain mood to watch i think. and i don't really feel like watching it in its entirety anytime soon.

but when i think of that anime, it falls more into the weird/sci-fi/post-apocalyptic genre, not really what i meant by an 'action' anime.

but for instance, with something like Claymore, the main reason i havn't watched it is because of the female Berserk-like main character.
i loved Berserk, but if Guts was a girl, it'd just make the series not as cool to watch IMO.

and i'm not trying to be sexist here. as i mentioned i like to personify/relate myself to the main character; it doesn't work out too well with a female lead which just forces me to watch the show objectively as an outsider.

In my case its almost the opposite i need a female cast even if it isnt the protagonist but it sure has to be the secondary i like to see some interaction between the male and female even if it is vague (dont think of hentai here :P, more like romance) or if there isnt any at least i want a female cast (as for claymore i dont know why but the artwork always made me to stay away from it, as for guts being female maybe i would finally watch berserker to ).

no i'm not.
according to wikipedia "Sexism, a term coined in the mid-20th century, refers to the belief or attitude that one gender or sex is inferior to, less competent, or less valuable than the other."

just because i don't like watching anime where women play a more tough-action role, doesn't mean i believe they aren't capable of doing it or are inferior to men.

that's like saying all straight guys are gay-bashers, because they themselves aren't into men.

Why do you say you woudln't like it? Maybe it's just me, but I have found those two to be one of the best environment and setting based series I've ever seen. Yes, the artwork is kind of wierd, but you get past that by ep. 2.
